Hong Kong's CCP mouthpiece Wen Wei Po published an article, declaring that "remnants of the black-clad riots" & "yellow persons" have infiltrated the relief efforts of the Tai Po fire, citing residents who saw people wearing black masks, reminding them of the "troublemakers" from the 2019 protests.

Hong Kongers express their solidarity with the victims of the Tai Po fire by writing words of encouragement and sympathy on Post-It notes. An act that disappeared since 2019 but apparently remain unforgotten since then.

Folks often forget the fight for democracy in HK isn’t a “Beijing vs us” thing in matters of human rights - I mean that matters too - but also the fight for local representation so that problems like these don’t get swept under the rug
This 2024 post from the DAB’s Peggy Wong is quickly becoming infamous.

In it, the pro-Beijing district councillor dismisses fire safety concerns about the Wang Fuk work as malicious rumours misleading the public, and accuses the Democratic Party of “provocatively live-streaming “ from the scene.

The HK pro-democracy camp recognised what the Chinese Communist Party ironically did not want to admit publicly - livelihood issues *are* political
Pro-democracy parties existed to be thorns in the government’s side — true enough. But the official story, that they “politicised” everything while the establishment camp championed livelihood issues, does not match the reality.

See below for an example of how they also pushed back on local issues.

it's heartwarming for a few moments until you realize again the scale of the disaster, how many fuckups had to happen & be ignored/suppressed to get here, & fully anticipating HKgov to somehow make *everything worse, somehow* in the wake of this & at that point you are, again, livid.

But I think yeah there is a sense that single player story driven and indie experimental titles are "art' and multiplayer games are junk food. Mirroring when video games as a whole were not considered culture vs other media.
