But anyway, I feel like you’re generalizing anti-car people (and maybe wrongly assuming that they hate or at least don’t understand you, personally, because you like your car and aren’t satisfied with other options in our current society?—but that’s me making assumptions), and that’s why I replied.

But it’s not just the cars themselves that are the problem, but also the massive amount of infrastructure that they require. Of course, less emissions and less people driving would still be a good thing, yeah, but that alone doesn’t solve everything either.

It’s less black-and-white than animal agriculture because there aren’t trillions of lives being directly killed and exploited in the same way, nor is it as easy to avoid, but it’s still similarly destructive to the planet, and it should still be acknowledged as such and denounced for its wide harm.

And that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t be able to find joy in owning or operating a car if they’re forced to use one, of course—but that also shouldn’t be used as an excuse to dismiss the damage that cars do, either.

I get all that for sure (and, once again, the issue is largely society), but that can all be true while it’s ALSO still true that cars are awful. It’s entirely POSSIBLE for society to flourish without requiring everyone to own cars—and that’s what anti-car people wish for—but our society refuses.

And I don’t even hate driving (I hate the anxiety it brings sometimes, though, lol) or using a car compared to biking or whatever (especially with the A/C), but I do hate that society has forced this incredibly destructive shit on EVERYONE and it’s in turn destroying this planet and the life on it.

You can be anti-car but still acknowledge that it’s a systemic issue and that cars are, unfortunately, necessary for many people due to that. Where I live, walking or biking isn’t very viable and the public transport is shit, so I NEED my car, and even still I hate cars, and I hate that I need one.

So I definitely would like to change my full name to something with more meaning to me, but it’s also like…ehhh, it’s close enough for now, maybe eventually when I feel less overwhelmed by everything, lol.

Yeah, totally get that! I feel the same about my last time. But by total coincidence, my preferred last name rhymes with and is spelled very similarly to my legal last name, so that’s ALSO similar like my first name, but my preferred last name actually ties into both my and my partner’s theriotypes.

I guess it’s also been easier for me since my preferred name just works as a nickname for my legal first name, so it’s not been a significant enough issue for me to bother with, lol.

I’ve wanted to legally change both my first and last name for years too but haven’t bothered to yet, not just because of the cost but also because of the headache of having to update everything to reflect the name change…

Of course sometimes I also have to unfollow people because they’ve posted hateful/bigoted things (even if they or others wouldn’t consider it such), but often it’s just because someone simply posts way too much for me to keep up with, lol. And I don’t like to just mute because that feels misleading.
