How can I help?

Despite the ‘adorable’ artwork, this mug is in no way suitable for coffee. It is overly oversized, too chunky and should only be used for tea.

Educators: I hope you have had the opportunity to refill your reservoirs… of energy, enthusiasm and hope. Even if you aren’t looking forward to returning, know that there are learners & colleagues who will be excited about being with you again. #nearlygotime

Such a great way to kickstart Y6 for our learners. First morning back, straight onto the bus & off to the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) for team-building, personal challenges & a chance to consider the year ahead.

So far, so good. Day 2 of our PLD - Assessment & Progression. Really enjoyed the discussion on the functions of feedback & refinement, across the curriculum. Good provocation from Austin’s Butterfly. Today was about 4Ps - progression, portraits, profiles and portfolios. #teamholton holtonps.co.uk

A great first of 2 Professional Learning & Development days - reviewing our mission&vision, renewing our team charter, setting priorities for our culture of learning & thinking about v3.0 of our Flourish Curriculum. For me, today was about ownership, direction & hope #teamholton - How was your day?

Good luck to everyone returning to school tomorrow… remember to be deliberate in your dialogue, choose slowness over haste, lead with questions over providing answers, and take time to observe that which is right in front of you 😊 #bepresent

I love these moments, had one last week in the gym. Such a boost. The inverse is also just as magic 💫- this is me a few months back with my former Y6 teacher / primary headteacher. We both coach rival district rugby teams and evidently he’s wanted to stop me talking so much, for a long time 🤭😂

Looking in from the outside, it does appear that most of the ed rhetoric in England is MAT focussed. Not sure it’s helpful but I’ve attached a map. Sending positive & supportive LA vibes from all the MAT free zones (see shaded areas)… apologies it was rushed but more details available on request 😁😉

Luna looks like she is thinking through a dastardly plan, whilst Maggie looks very cute - almost like a beanie baby cat…

Today was a solid attempt to get onto the front foot - a day in the office. I’m beginning to think I’m a fully fledged cliché.

You have officially completed ‘the pit stop’. Reminds me a little of Aberaeron-ish…

Ok edu-folk of this emerging pilipala (butterfly) landscape. Let’s see a Summer photo with water…
1. Where is it?
2. Why were you there?
3. Will you go again?

Alas no. Row three of the colour palette & making my way right to left. I will, when required for conditional formatting to confirm a completed task, venture southward in column 6… but always starting from row 3. Sharing this & seeing it articulated has caused me some concern… about myself.

Not of late. I read ‘Start with why’ many years ago, in amongst books such as 7 habits, 5 Dysfunctions, Good to Great etc - I use the golden circle in the majority of my thinking and have always been drawn back to Lencioni too. It has served me well in my own thinking on organisational change

Vital that leaders & teachers revisit ‘the why’ - the demands of our system drives behaviours that channel us toward the what & perhaps the how. The role of leaders is to keep the why at the front & centre. From here, you can genuinely determine what to prioritise, what to avoid & what sits between

My quote for the day… and before you take the mick, the answer is yes I have 🙄😂

@andydowning.bsky.social signposted this before but reading this book was a leadership game changer for me. I wonder how much challenge leaders seek and/or get from their own reading.

Could we accept that this as a given? If so, how are school leaders enabling professional agency across their teams? #NetworkEdchat
