Uncle Spike

A slightly neurospicy Gen-X nerd. (BTW: Nerds and geeks are not the same thing.) Will comment on music often. Not a bear. A bit of a gainer. Cis-homo/queer. I contradict myself. I am large; I contain multitudes. No LGB without the T. 🏳‍🌈🏳‍⚧

Here's your uncle wishing you well on this #mcm and beyond. Big hugs for all who need 'em. It's a tough world out there. Be kind to everyone...especially yourself.
Oof. I have no idea what possessed my mom, of all people, to try to follow my finsta (unsuccessfully), but...uh...now she at least suspects I advertise as neurospicy and a gainer. (TBH, probably not much of a surprise, but.)

A quarter Meyer lemon, rind and all. A scant quart of water. Blend. Strain. Add a squirt of simple syrup, a dash of vanilla, and a quarter cup of liquid kefir whey. Enjoy the best lemonade ever. Then notice the health impacts it has on you.

Life is good when food is your medicine, and it's yummy.

Evening flight. Best song to sum up the atmosphere here: "Daysleeper" by R.E.M.

'Tis the season. If you hate Christmas songs and want to bah someone up their humbug with something hard and sandpapery whenever you hear Mariah Carey, here's your retaliatory weapon. Have fun.

All of the Christmas songs played at once
Why put yourself through the torture of having to listen to hours of Christmas music when you can just get it over with in 5 minutes. All* of the Christmas songs played at once,,,, * maybe not all

V. seriously contemplating joining an online community slow read of some novel next year. Top contender (because this is how I found out about the idea) is War and Peace. Apparently easy to do, since it has 361 chapters and each chapter is, like, 3–4 pages long. The idea intrigues me.

Broccoli cheese and rice casserole for lazy bums. (Who has two thumbs and is a lazy bum? 😁😁)

Get broccoli cheese soup from the store. Make rice. Steam extra broccoli because despite being lazy and fat, you do care about health in your own way. Throw it together. Add extra garlic because see above.

Cozy breakfast on a snowy day. I am in my jammies. It's gonna be that kind of a day.

And here in Denver, what does the sner do? It flurrs! Literally. That's what flurries are. The sner flurrs. So sez Webster.

I love drinking out of this goblet. I think everyone should drink out of glassware that pleases them. Also, Thanksgiving in all its gluttonous glory hit me, just like everyone else. Hope you all had a great one.

Time to experiment. Let's see what happens when I add lecithin to my...as they say nowadays, supplement stack. I've read interesting things.

I just watched All About Eve. Around the line "Fasten your seat belts. It's going to be a bumpy night," I noticed that Margo (Bette Davis) seemed to be downing a lot of martinis. Well, I timed them. Yep. Five martinis in less than nine minutes. I don't know anyone else who has done that.

Dessert, pt 2: Kefir cheese, sliced persimmon, honey, and pumpkin spice, heavy on the cloves. Super delicious. No one can accuse me of being conventional.

Things that complement each other so well: the right font for an author. Examples:
- Permanent Marker and Henry Rollins (no joke)
- Kirimomi Swash and William Blake
- EB Garamond and Jane Austen
- Walter Turncoat and Jack London

In related news, I love my Kindle. And I love having fun with fonts

I swam 3x200 today. The guy I shared the lane with was impressed with my speed and told me so. I thanked him and told him I was impressed with his consistency. I rested between 200s while he never stopped. Both of us doing the best we knew how, and doing great in our own way.

It's been a while. Hey y'all!

My latest "want to have my cake and eat it too" bit: be able to do 40 pushups bc heart disease would suck. But want a big belly that hits the ground before my chest. So...🤔

Not gonna say how many pushups I can do at once. But it's not 40. I got work to do.
How Pushups Can Help Men's Hearts
A recent study, of men and pushups, strengthens the case that muscle-building promotes heart health. "Even if you can only do a little exercise, you get tremendous benefits," a fitness expert says.

Current thing that makes me excited: homemade dehydrated fermented hot sauce mash powder.

Damn, that's a mouthful. Apparently it's super delicious. I seldom make fermented hot sauce. I don't have a dehydrator. Also don't have a spice grinder. But just the idea seems so neat.

Today I shake my fist at a website for using "discrete" when "discreet" was called for. Yesterday it was at mixing up "wary" and "weary" on a post here.

I'm getting very peeved at such errors nowadays. My kingdom for a magic wand to make corrections...especially for experts in their field.

So, as the kids are tiring of saying, I was today years old when...

...I found out Jonathan Bailey is gay. He never set off my gaydar, despite being devastatingly handsome. And I say that as a HUGE Bridgerton fan. (Should I have considered his being in Wicked a hint?)

The room here at home in CA where musical magic happens. Guitar, singing, listening. Today's listening was Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen—the whole album. Gives me shivers, it's so good. Should be required listening for everyone nowadays.
"Well, sir I guess there's just a meanness in this world."

I used to mock the old fogeys who wore golf pants and listened to Frank Sinatra and whose idea of a fun and crazy night was when their prunes kicked in. But goddamn it, I'm now one of 'em. Except I wear aloha shirts and listen to exotica.

Gonna try something new. I think we've been sold the wrong story about dental health...that brushing is more important. For the next month, I'm going to floss every day like clockwork. And I'm gonna brush my teeth for maybe ten seconds a day. Let's see what they say on my next dental visit.

Feeling more and more...ah...my presence on the spectrum lately. Like looking back at my life and having a strong suspicion that people all along have been whispering behind my back, "is he really that deluded? Like...does he not get how off and out of place he is?" It's unnerving.

Denver fall: Gorgeous leaves changing color and beautiful cool weather.
Palm Springs fall: Citrus season begins and beautiful warm weather. (There's also that Pride thing, or so I've been told.)

Back in the late '90s, after college graduation, my friends and I discovered this bit of hilariously sobering cartoonage. Classic Gen X humor. To this day, I still enjoy coffay and cookays.
