We support migrant students globally who work to end carceral policies.

That's why we affirm Momodou Taal & his important fight against unjust ICE detention & his mission to ensure the civil liberties for all US students.

We've donated, please do the same. 🔽

A follow-up to our tweet, the recommendations from the Russell Group SUs & UKCISA report about the international student experience contain significant gaps.

A failure of this report is not confronting the #HostileEnvironment policy affecting migrant students.

We unpack why this matters.

🧵
The image is divided into two sections. The top section features a pink background with bold black text. Below it is an image of a group of five people sitting on indoor steps, casually interacting with each other. They appear to be students, with a mix of genders, ethnicities, and attire; some are holding notebooks or electronic devices. The background includes a modern interior with a balcony and glass windows. The lower part is a dark blue area with white text, beneath which are logos for "Russell Group Students' Unions" and "UKCISA." In the bottom right corner, there is an illustration of a graduate with a megaphone, next to the words "UNIS RESIST BORDER CONTROLS."

The Russell Group SUs' report on migrant students affirms much of what we've been saying for 9 years.

Read the study here: qrplanet.com/ybz0fr?ref

These series of tweets, we unpack the report.

But the report could have gone father. Watch for our 2nd part on this study.

🧵
The image has a lavender background with centered black text at the top providing information about a report by the Russell Group Students’ Union (RGSU). It discusses the challenges faced by migrant students due to policies and educational structures. Below the text, a large black arrow pointing to the left contains the white text "We unpack this report." In the bottom right corner, a logo with a pattern of chain links, a book, and a graduation cap is accompanied by the text "UNIS RESIST BORDER CONTROLS."

In relation to our tweet on X, a comrade told us:

"UCU is better at organising to strengthen the SWP than itself"

We couldn't say it any better.

The image is a collage containing two main sections and additional text elements. The top section is a screenshot from a social media post by "UCU - University and College Union." It has a white background with black text, highlighting a decision made at the UCU Congress 2025 to oppose racism and the far-right, with specific commitments listed. Below this is a bold, magenta panel with white uppercase text that says "PASSED! COMMITTING OUR UNION TO" followed by smaller text: "Oppose racist immigration laws, stand-up to the far right, and support anti-racist organising." At the bottom left, there is angled text stating, "Working with SUTR & 'turning out for mass anti-racist' protest will not end xeno-racist immigration policies or stop the far-right!" The bottom right features a logo with text "UNIS RESIST BORDER CONTROLS" and a stylized image of a graduation cap and an academic building. The image features a section from a manifesto document. At the top is a stylized black-and-white image of a person on a purple background. Below, the title "6. HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT" is prominently displayed, followed by a subheading "6.1 Compensating the material costs of anti-immigrant policies." The document describes issues related to immigration policies in educational and work environments, mentioning topics like visa costs, xenophobia, and policies affecting BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) students and staff. Important texts are bolded and underlined for emphasis, such as "to challenge" and "aggressively over-enforce." Surrounding the document, there is a large pink arrow pointing toward the page and additional pink text reading "From Jo Grady’s 2019 manifesto pledge that has been forgotten by Jo & her supporters!" In the bottom right corner, there is a logo and text that says "UNIS RESIST BORDER CONTROLS."
The image is divided into two main sections. The top section features a text block titled "6.2 Campaigning against surveillance and the security state." The text discusses the effects of the hostile environment on research, particularly regarding overseas colleagues facing issues with visas and surveillance measures. Terms like "forced" are emphasized in red. Below this, there are hyperlinks to campaigns such as "International and Broke" and "Unis Resist Border Controls." An arrow points from the text to the bottom left section, which has a gradient black background with pink text reading, "What happened to your 2019 manifesto promises, Jo?" In the bottom right corner, the logo for "Unis Resist Border Controls" features a stylized image of a protester and a broken chain motif.

Important piece by Amandla Thomas-Johnson
on how US migrant students involved in Palestine solidarity work are having their student visas weaponised by milquetoast university bosses who are kowtowing to normalising fascism on campus and Trump's bombastic rhetoric.

www.aljazeera.com/opinions/202...
The image is a screenshot of a webpage from Al Jazeera's website. The headline of the article reads, "Trump wants to deport foreign students like me. Universities must defy him." Below the headline is a subheading: "Universities will get nowhere by facilitating the Trump administration’s crackdown on pro-Palestinian students. They will only accelerate his ‘war on woke’.” The article is attributed to Amandla Thomas-Johnson, identified as a PhD candidate at Cornell University. The date is marked as "12 Mar 2025." Above the headline is the Al Jazeera logo in orange, along with website navigation links and categories like News, Middle East, and more. Below the text is an image of a historic building with a pointed tower amidst leafless trees under a cloudy sky. Social sharing icons are visible beside the author’s name.
