thancred turns heel, walking away with hands in his pockets and tail between his legs. he responds over his shoulder simply; "...nothing. never mind. good night, mona." missy is seen leaned against the door, watching after him with dismay as he goes. she does not stop him, though; just lingers alone at her open door after, still sniffling from her dream.

the view widens to show that missy is resting in her room at the forgotten knight, setting this part of the comic some time after the echo she'd just had. she jolts up from bed, rubbing the tears from her eyes, instinctively alarmed by the midnight visit. missy stumbles on her way out of bed, wrapping her blanket around herself as she rushes to yank the door open. when she does, she's met with thancred. she's confused and concerned, asking, "... thancred? what are you doing here so late? is everyone alright?" he doesn't respond; just stares down at her, his brow knit woefully. after a beat, missy continues- perhaps on a hunch, perhaps because of something the viewer can't recognize as easily as her- "... you're drunk." the view does not shift from him, but his expression transforms at her comment- first taken off-guard, then frustrated. whether it's with her or himself is unclear.

this is probably why the process for invoking an amber carbuncle is so complex, because amber more often than not has creatures entombed inside, and I'm sure the aether of that fossilized creature may tamper with the spell if one isn't careful and deliberate with their geometries
