I'm excited to share that I'll be stepping into the role of Head of @cohereforai.bsky.social. It's an honor and a responsibility to lead such an extraordinary group of researchers pushing the boundaries of AI research.

Did you know that by substituting your morning coffee with green tea, you can eliminate up to 93% of what little joy you have left?

Mat is not on 🦋—posting on his behalf!
It's time to revisit common assumptions in IR! Embeddings have improved drastically, but mainstream IR evals have stagnated since MSMARCO + BEIR.
We ask: on private or tricky IR tasks, are rerankers better? Surely, reranking many docs is best?

Thanks for your patience as we navigated some technical difficulties today! Moving forward, the performance issues you may have noticed should hopefully be resolved.

For those who missed this post on the-network-that-is-not-to-be-named, I made public my "secrets" for writing a good CVPR paper (or any scientific paper). I've compiled these tips of many years. It's long but hopefully it helps people write better papers. perceiving-systems.blog/en/post/writ...

Some random Nazi made dozens of accounts to try to harass me today when blocking malfunctioned, & *still* failed because not one single person engaged.
It seems everyone on Bluesky got the memo. React to nothing. Starve them out.
They're so desperate for a crumb of attention. Deny them.

when we first moved to Oz, we joked about how the most popular local sports (cricket and 3 kinds of rugby) were sufficiently unfamiliar to Americans that we could just make up rules when we were telling friends back home. so I am looking at this tale of rustic Germany with some skepticism.
oh it’s their weird Midsommar kale festival thing up north. They do a hike (called a grünkohlfahrt, which means “cabbage walk”) and play lawn games while getting drunk on sherry. Then they go to the village pub to eat kale with sausage, and whoever eats the most kale is crowned the Kale King.
