3/ As a result, >100 #Belarusian organizations involved in #environmental protection have been liquidated since 2021, some are recognized as “extremist groups.” Now they are looking for ways to continue their work 🤍❤️‍🩹🤍

2/ 🤬 Following the 2020 protests against the rigging of the presidential election, the #Belarusian regime only intensified its #repression of civil society.

The #Lukashenko regime decided to label internationally funded NGOs as “enemies of the fatherland.”

3/ What preventive measures can be taken in a situation where monitoring in the occupied territories is impossible?

2/ According to Dr. Stanislav Viter, if the meteorological trends of 2023-2025 continue, particularly dangerous #locust swarms should be expected in 2026-2028. One of the reasons for the active spread of locusts was the consequences of the #war in #Ukraine.

2/ #Russia is withdrawing from the Ramsar #convention and thereby renouncing international measures to protect some 10 million hectares of valuable natural areas.

6/ 💬 In general, we are still very far from solving the problem, and there are no guarantees that everything will end well without a new wave of massive #pollution.

5/ 💬 The #cofferdams may not be ready in time. And even if they are used, it is a very expensive but dubious operation. The success of this technology has not been demonstrated anywhere in similar conditions.
uwecworkgroup.bsky.social
4/ 💬❗️ In other words, there has been no information for a long time about progress on building #cofferdams — a kind of sarcophagus around each of the wreckage — and then lift everything, including the #oil, to the surface.

3/ 💬 The saddest thing is that the last time we heard about any steps to solve the main problem — the removal of 2-3 thousand tons of #mazut from the sunken wreckage of the #tankers — was on September 5.

2/ 💬 #Oil products continue to leak from the wreckage of the ships — this can sometimes be seen in satellite images. If undersea #tanker wreckage is severely shaken by autumn storms, they will leak more heavily, and everything will start all over again.

1/ 🤡 On Sep.19, the Krasnodar Region Operational Headquarters and a government commission reported on the completion of work to collect settled #mazut from the bottom of the #BlackSea in the Anapa coastal zone.

UWEC expert Evgeny Simonov explained why the problem is far from being solved: ⬇️⬇️

2/ ⚠️ 1300 of 1947 megawatts of Ukraine's #wind power capacity is produced in territories occupied by #Russia, with another 40 MW destroyed or damaged. In 2025, around 200 MW of wind power capacity will be commissioned, according to #Ukraine Business News.

2/ The #coal industry was one of Ukraine’s largest industries. However, with the beginning of #Russia’s armed aggression, the decay of mining towns in occupied territories, accumulating industry debts, and the unstable economic situation have led to the industry’s gradual decline.

2/ ❌ On July 21, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers liquidated that ministry, merging it with two others — the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Economy.

The new Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of #Ukraine inherits their property, rights and responsibilities.
