Great first day in Kirkwall hosted by Orkney Federation of Scottish Women's Instituted. Alongside President Mary Burney, and Vice President Susie Finlayson, enjoyed talking about our Heritage Lottery funded Heritage Project. Look forward to tomorrow's workshops, and to visiting the Archives Friday!

Powerful to see the five maquettes for the new Mandela statue for Glasgow. Brought back memories of meeting him in Newfoundland -- a story in itself -- not long after his release, and for my husband, a Mandela Marcher to London. Amandla!

Working with Scottish Women's Institutes heritage, thanks to @heritagefunduk.bsky.social, is fascinating. This day started with SWI '70s theatrical tapestry designs. It moved on to recording the granddaughter of a friend of founder 'Cathy' Blair, and viewing her unique Mak Merry pottery. Brilliant!
