There is very little that other formats do better. It is a true jack of all trades.

The fanbase it has garnered is almost certainly because of how widely good it is and how sidelined it regularly is. Browser support is avoided to the point of it almost seeming like there is a vendetta against it.

As a format, JPEG-XL does pretty much everything in an extremely capable capacity. It is so versatile and fully featured that it is more or less a replacement for all other image file formats.
