What's the hardest thing to explain to people about your job as a writer?

Me: I spent the whole day reading, which is A FULL DAY'S WORK even though that's what most people do for fun. And yes, it *was* fun, but it was also work.

There’s no regulatory body or hoops. You create the position for yourself.
