Addressing the underlying societal failings that drive people to addiction or anti-social (“criminal”) behavior would be much more effective and humane than blanket incarceration.

Totally agree, and what’s more, general reminder that countries are human-made concepts, and that pretending the geographical location of someone’s birth makes them more or less entitled to rights and protections, or even “not our problem”, is one of the most heinous evils ever perpetrated.

I would DEARLY love to see an end to the “if I can do it, you can too” attitude.
I get it, it’s *supposed* to be an encouragement, but too often its effect is a blend of toxic positivity and judgmentalism. It doesn’t encourage, it doesn’t help, it just offers bland cheerleading.

I’m just a wounded soul who has suffered enough loss to have learned to be grateful for what I still have.
