🦮 Attention dog owners! One of my trainees is examining the relationship between dogs and toys, and their owner’s thoughts about that relationship. Want to help?

Cognitive psych is often traced back to the 1950s.
Psychology is often traced to Wundt's lab in 1879.
Textbooks speak of "proto-psychologists" like Fechner & Helmholtz in the 1800s... Westerners all.

Have you heard about Ibn al-Haytham, whose work predated them by 100s of years?

New bowerbird paper! Male great bowerbirds build display courts that are linked to mating success, and we found that object availability 🧱 rather than male building ability 👷 explains variation in court quality rb.gy/vznmm7

Such a cool twist on an old design: Roosters warn each other when a hawk is circling overhead. But when they’re alone and a predator is near, they stay silent to avoid attracting attention. Importantly, they don’t warn their own reflection.

Don’t know if this will help, but in Hilton et al (2021) we looked at 2-year-olds’ group-based selective prosociality, with one group similar to the child and one dissimilar. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
