Worth noting that because Sim brought forward his proposal for a property tax freeze requiring millions in cuts with just weeks left in the budget process, this is not up for public debate and is not outlined in the documents available to councillors when they vote on this

I’ve covered events in this city for 20 years. They have ruined one of the best parts of the holiday season in Vancouver.

- Removed an accessible, affordable holiday attraction (site entry always by donation)
- Removed funds from 2 local charities that relied on this year-end boost
- Funding JK
Here’s what I’ve learned about Vancouver Park Board’s approval of a Harry Potter attraction in Stanley Park:

- board approved it months ago in a private meeting; I believe it was unanimous

- multiple commissioners expressing regret

- there was a document pushing financial opportunities like this
Why Vancouver's decision to host a Harry Potter attraction quickly became controversial | CBC News
It's a story bringing together two very different things that nonetheless regularly attract controversy: the Vancouver Park Board and the Harry Potter universe.

I support a democratically elected park board. Part of democracy is ensuring that the government’s decisions match the city’s values.

Vancouver is a city for all its people. Trans people included. I am calling on the Park Board to rethink this event and make this right.

The cost of just one of the new highway overpasses exceeds everything ever spent on bike lanes in Victoria.

“When mayors in other cities ask me how #Copenhagen afforded to invest in its cycling networks, I ask them how on earth they have been able to afford highway projects. We invested in bike lanes because that was the cheapest option.”

I took a look at some of the YouTube interviews Vancouver’s mayor has been doing on Bitcoin, and what he says is pretty wild.

When I asked an economist about these theories he said, “This is not economics, this is — I don’t know what to call it.”
