Just had the chance to roleplay an evil techie who ended up saying:

"Keep your politics out of our eugenics program."

Until this video I had never heard a single thing against The Boy in the Striped Pajamas that wasn't a critique of the text itself.

This author in particular claiming the backlash is from his being cancelled or whatever is so absurdly inaccurate.
one of my fav vids I've done in a while! About the surreal and vaguely evil children's book, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I have this fun little tradition of picking a "theme song" for every year in the first week and when the year is ending I ask myself if it was the right choice. And few times have I nailed it as hard as this year with Linkin Park's "Good Things Go".

My social battery is so high that it often feels completely infinite but then I reach the end of it and I'm like "oh? I _want_ to be alone? Wild!"

The power of friendship rules, actually.

Just went to see the new Lynne Ramsey, Die My Love. My friend described it as "seeing someone give in to every intrusive thought they have" and... 🙂‍↕️ It's very good.

Ban AI.
(AI as in: LLMs and Gen-AI)

don't regulate
don't slow it down

Ban.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Reading through the quotes and I'm like... You're all too tame. If I start sharing animal rights opinions I'd need to spend half an hour on each sentence otherwise I'll come across as an eugenicist.

So I guess my two very woke opinions are
1. Respect animals
2. Eugenicist thought is everywhere

Reading the comments in the new Wuthering Heights trailer about how it's "still a love story regardless of the ending" and I'm like... The contention of calling it a "love story" really doesn't come only from how this story ends, I swear.

I never forget when I received a relatively cold and random message from a man I was dating and immediately felt all the butterflies and tingling feelings. I wondered what was going on, and then remembered: Last time I'd seen him he was holding a baby.
For all of their obsession about what makes themselves attractive to women, men really underestimate the utter absolute hotness that emanates from them taking good care of and playing well with babies and children

You know we're in bad shape when people turn Joyce Carol Oates into a hero

Octavia E. Butler's Dawn

Not so much the book itself as discussions about it. The fact that a book that features one of the most ruthlessly evil set of antagonists I've ever read about could still garner the response "the Oankali weren't that much worse than the humans" destroyed a chunk of me.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Yesterday I was telling someone about Madoka Magica, which I saw many years ago and only remember the energy. When I did an Image Search I legit thought at least half of it would be dark but nope. All cutsie.

Anyway. Watch Madoka Magica. Go in without knowing anything. I'll apologize later. xx

For a while I wondered: Why am I such a huge AI-hater when one of my favorite fictional characters of all-time is Data from #StarTrekTNG?

But the answer is obvious.
Capitalism.

AI isn't being built by people who care, it's being developed by corporations to figure out new avenues of exploitation.

Ok maybe Kurzgesagt could have made the disclaimer in the beginning of the video clearer, but the response I'm seeing here is frustrating as a 32 year-old who's witnessed at least 4 people get their lives to very significantly improve after they quit weed, or even just dramatically reduced it.
Weed is often seen as harmless, but for many people, it can slowly become a serious problem, especially as they approach their twenties or thirties. Today, we take a closer look at how long-term daily use can affect your relationships, mental health, and life in general: https://kgs.link/QuitWeed
