I knew very few details about the plot, by the way, and it already seemed awful. This video shocked me in so many places with just how far some stuff in the book goes.

And to have chosen a song that's all about acknowledging the deep pain of relationships, being grateful for some of it too, and resigning myself to the reality that life is just relentless sometimes and if that's what we have for today, that's what I have to deal with... Just. Perfect.

I've referred to this year as one of the best in my adult life, and that's not because an exceptional amount of good things happened. A great deal of good things did happen, but it's been mostly a completely relentless year, especially when it comes to my social life.

When I picked it I thought I was being a little too pessimistic, but as the year is ending, the resigned way that Emily Armstrong sings that "sometimes bad things take the place where good things go" comes across as at peace with the reality of life. Which is very much how I feel.

And without KNOWING anything, both these things come across as production problems to me. Like someone cheaped out and the artists did the best within the restraints they were given + studio interference. I imagine they had more freedom with the music, which (surprise) is the best part of the movie.
