don't really have strong magic feelings but this does vibe
One of my favourite thing about magic is slowly piecing together the events, themes, and characters by examining cards. Art and flavour text go a long way to hint at what is happening, and even the mechanics of the card can be used to explore. UB will never do this, as UB is just showing us card versions of things that already happened in the setting. The star trek UB set won't be an introduction to a new crew and ship. It won't be familiar characters approaching a new conflict or new species of alien, it'll be a picture of the silly sword club that Kirk and Spock fought with and will say "remember this from the tv show?". To me UB isn't ~true magic~ because it fails to capture that sense of curiosity and worldbuilding that normal magic sets do.
