to avoid the continuous ownership returning, rust introduces borrowing, borrowing allows a function to temporarily "borrow" a reference to a variable, using the & symbol, without taking ownership & after the function finishes, ownership returns to the original caller.

It's not "analog vs. digital" but a shift from deterministic bits (strict 0/1) to probabilistic ones that natively handle uncertainty - this is ideal for ai, where models like diffusion or energy-based models (ebm's) rely on sampling from noisy distributions.

so they're using all thermo laws..
