okay folks, “government name” doesn’t mean “work for the government.” it is a slang term meaning “your full name”

why is it easier to imagine disbanding ice and dhs than it is to imagine a rebuilt nih that actually cares about iaccs 😓 this is actually irrational imo

From its establishment, DHS has always been empowered to violate our rights under the pretense of securing our safety. DHS's overbroad mission and unchecked power make it a danger to our communities.

We brought DHS into this world, and we can build a world without it, too.

Every interview with a right-wing politician is like: "Mr. Hitler is adamant: If we sacrifice enough children, Santa Claus will come back and deliver 5% GDP growth. But I have to ask him: Do you ever worry that your relentless advocacy for working folks offends the rootless cosmopolitan parasites?"
I don’t get how Jenrick can actually believe that we should shrink the population and then start making more of our own things from pots and pans to what iPhones? How does he think that happens?

I am trying this - not really looking to take over, just help and maybe have some influence - and I am finding the advice to be both true and not true. Yes they are grateful to have me, but it is also difficult and frustrating in ways that contradict the whole "one easy trick" thing.

#LongCovid #mecfs folks is anyone interested in doing this? it won’t be related to chronic illness but this could be a way to help shape policy on an issue a lot us care about without leaving the house. it would involve 1) sending a scripted email 2) writing a letter to a local newspaper (with help
we need a campaign to get democratic representatives and senators to state their position on abolishing ice and then write letters to local newspapers about it.
before DHS.) I imagine that any real attempt to abolish ice by the democrats might be tied to additional funding for local police, but they will probably do that anyway.

abolishing ice feels like the most important medium term political goal.

I’m just gonna keep saying “triple the NIH budget” until it sounds like common sense.
When I see losses like this, I’m so frustrated by what could have been. What if we did something as simple as tripling the budget for medical research like Dr. Williams himself did? Could he have been saved? And how many others like him?
A total tragedy. He developed a treatment that has proven life saving for so many patients with previously intractable depression, then himself succumbed to the same disease.

Why not compose a shadow CDC, FDA, etc? It may not be able to stop these people from making absolute fools of themselves in front of the entire world but idk, can you imagine a future when it might be nice to have a repository of actual experienced experts, say for another appointee to draw on?

One of the reasons Trump is in the White House is that people think both parties are equally corrupt. They're not, but statements like this make it really hard for people to see that truth.

I think jasmine crockett running for senate would be hilarious (complimentary) and that she’s more likely to win statewide than the other candidates.

I’ve seen at least a few stories about chronic illness running in families that are narratives of deep support and understanding but no stories about the other kind of experience you can have with this. I kind of want to write this myself but I also don’t wanna like…hurt anyone or really work on
