When I was actively in the alt fashion scene, I wore some of the most delightfully outlandish stuff on public transportation in Boston, D.C., New York, London, and Paris. I am a petite gal. I didn’t ever feel particularly unsafe or face harassment in any of these cities

Man, you’re making me nostalgic. My dad was a Pawtucket firefighter for almost 30 years and spent a lot of nights in spitting distance of McCoy Stadium. The summer post-game fireworks were a big part of my childhood. That said, the noise …isn’t fun. You have my misophobic condolences.

It’s like, by “Germany” do you mean the large number of the Germanic language-speaking duchies, principalities, and minor kingdoms that constantly grew, shrank, absorbed each other, and sometimes ceased to exist over the course of hundreds of years?
