It’s one year since the release of #HomeSounds. From #FredDibnah to #DaphneOram, Belgian beaches to a platform at (Edinburgh) #Waverley station and all manner of diy #synth prodding, it was great fun to make. Thanks to all who have listened to it :-) voltagepoetryproject.bandcamp.com/album/home-s...

‘A Walk Across The Rooftops’ is, to me, like a film in album form. A beautiful film too. I’ll be posting some personal #5debutalbums8084 favourites on my non-Voltage Poetry Project account and that LP is almost certainly going to be in the quintet :-)

There’s quite a David Byrne vibe to that, as a lyric, I think (n.b. I think Byrne is a tremendous lyricist) ! :-)

You’ve outlined an appealing project here: collaborate with Mr C on the lyrics, ask Jonathan Meades to recite them and see if it’s possible for an appropriate act (WRNTDP?) to produce a couple of remixes - a banging ‘Welwyn & Letchworth Mix’ & more bucolic ‘Garden Cities of To-morrow’ one, perhaps…

Having just recorded (for my own amusement) three songs in a “session style” to mark it being five years since having a session on @showhomebrew.bsky.social, there is to be another track of mine on next week’s show! Good to see @tayusmusic.bsky.social featuring too; loved their ‘Symbiotic’ LP.

Big episode coming up this Wednesday night on @madwaspradiomwr.bsky.social Featuring a full live emom set from the awesome Astroscapes, a Scottish Zen Zone special and a stack of great indie Electronica. Volume 🆙 ⬆️🤩

I’m quite surprised that nobody has asked if you did indeed have two soups…
voltagepoetry.bsky.social
Had time to mix three new songs today. One I’m very happy with, the other two are a bit like unripe cheeses… they might need to be returned to next year. Hoping to mix the “5 years since my @showhomebrew.bsky.social session” tracks tomorrow.

On the OP-1, perhaps its pricing reflects the fact there’s nothing else really like it on the market now? Have you heard Deerful’s ‘Peach’ LP or her ‘Staying Still’ EP? Both influenced me and make wide use of an OP-1 (there’s even a visual reference to one on the artwork of the latter.)

Thanks. The QY10 project is at voltagepoetryproject.bandcamp.com/album/walkto... but it’s worth saying I just wrote the riffs and bass parts on the Walkstation & then triggered other synths from it. The QY70 is more intuitive IMHO, so might actually feature in the follow-up!

Had a go on a friends’ OP-1 a couple of years ago; it’s a lovely (but expensive) instrument. I’ve a lot of affection for my Yamaha walkstations - QY10 & QY70. Did a project with the former last winter and am minded to do something with the latter this :-)

I hope the Ramsgate gig goes well; I’d have been there but for travelling back from Westmorland. Kent has no New Towns, oddly. There’s an attempt to get a UNESCO “Geopark” designation (with agencies in northern France) for its chalk landscapes though, which seems a little bit upbeat.

Microroastery is usually quite nice for coffee and cake.

For me it’s Neil Hannon / The Divine Comedy. Hannon sometimes writes about subjects or situations I’m familiar with but his execution has a musical dexterity and involves compositional reference points a world away from what I create. It’s a joy to listen to his work.

It’s not possible to overstate how joyous, and fun, listening to #Blancmange has been since I was really quite young. Thanks to Stephen Luscombe for his partnership with Neil Arthur that enabled this. RIP.

Heartbroken. RIP Stephen. Love you forever.

Is that the opening line to a song?

Quite thrillingly, you turned up on my personal Facebook feed today - and I don’t even follow you on that platform! A good “to camera” run through of upcoming shows and who you’ll be sharing stages with. A rare “positive algorithm outcome”, perhaps? Looking forward to hearing your BBC playlist…

I have on of these - it is very useful for making salade niçoise. It also makes a beautiful sound, like a micro-harp, when given a single strum… I really should try and use that in a song :-)

A little bit of fun, from my non-Voltage Poetry Project account @keithharrison.bsky.social, on records I admire from the 00s. It’s part of a BlueSky challenge called #00sTop30 :-)

A new musical diversion; the @tansleyjames.bsky.social curated #00sTop30 starts tomorrow (1st August) and my suggestions will appear in the thread below. The ordering will be relatively random and I’ll be posting on a “one track per artiste” basis…

Fantastic - that’s one I’m yet to visit. Hope the gig went/goes well.

This is a tremendous interview with the maker of some of the best television programmes I have ever seen / enjoyed. The @brunelsbridge.bsky.social (wasn’t ‘Morningtown Ride’ played at the end of that episode, with a dummy of Meades on a rollercoaster?) gets a mention too :-) @thequietus.com

It’s something I’m aware of doing - and very happy with. I have hints of both of my parents’ accents (Somerset/Edinburgh) in my speaking voice and there are thus certain words that come out those ways when singing, alongside the hushed Home Counties (with droplets of estuary) delivery.

Are you within sight of the Alton Barnes White Horse?
voltagepoetry.bsky.social
I think DCD’s ‘Within The Realms Of A Dying Sun’ is a beautiful album. It hangs together with grand orchestration that both stands on its own and supports the very contrasting vocal styles of Lisa Gerrard & Brendan Perry. ‘Aeon’ isn’t a bad LP either :-)

I finally got round to hearing the rough mixes on Soundcloud last night. There’s a pleasing “Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) sensibility” to your vocal on ‘Still In Your Name’ and the breakdown to the chime/bells sections in ‘Slamming Doors’ provided a fine pause in that piece.
