Interestingly there is a thing where this sort of matters! Ramadan (and other months in the Islamic calendar) officially begins when the crescent moon first appears, so astronomers near the "early" side of the planet will race to be the first to see it.

There is an actual difference in observed moon phase between two locations on opposite sides of the earth. It's just very small: it's equivalent to between 3 1/2 and 4 hours of moon phase changes -- and it takes nearly a month for the moon to go through a full cycle...
