Walk Ride Tameside was named Best Community/Campaign Group for their work building bridges with @tamesidecouncil.bsky.social & proposing the Tameside Trails greenways network.

And the much-loved & tireless campaigner Owler Nook was crowned People’s Active Travel Champion for 2025.

Greater Manchester’s Bicycle Mayor Belinda Everett, nominated in two categories, took home the Best Activation Event award for her work organising the hugely impactful Black Unity Bike Ride, which has announced it will return for the next few years at least.

@rochdalecouncil.bsky.social’s advancements over the year were rewarded with the Most Improved Council prize – acknowledging their commitment to continuing with the Castleton scheme for the greater good despite noises from a vocal minority of objectors.

Marking exciting times for the core of the region, Manchester City Council claimed two titles – for the completed scheme to reallocate road space and curtail car use on Deansgate, and as Best Council for the ever-growing pipeline and clear ambitions for the near future.

Across an energising ceremony, half of the categories saw the region’s 10 boroughs battling it out for accolades including the hotly contested Most Improved & Best Council.

Walk Ride GM was horrified by the recent news of a hate crime against Klaudia Mitura on the Ashton Canal.

There is no excuse for violence, including this example of male violence against women.

Incidents like this are made more likely by a widespread press and media bias against cyclists.

CYCLE ROUTE SAVED! 🎉🎉🎉

Following our campaign, Manchester Met and Unite have backed down on plans to block bike access on Cavendish Road, saving a major cycle route between Hulme and the city centre.

At Walk Ride GM, we’re demanding safe active travel for women and girls in Greater Manchester.

Research by Lime found that 100% of female survey respondents want improvements aimed at personal safety.
