And that from a government that calls itself "Labour".

The UK has managed to limp by the last decades on and because of its low wage economy. And that is currently collapsing.

I see the same in my sector, hourly wages in the UK for the skills I hire are a third of the wages for the same job in the Netherlands. And I pay above average.

Take the entire discussion about GP's.

There are more than enough unemployed GP's, but you can't get an appointment because profit demands limit the amount of money that is spent on them, so vacancies aren't filled (if they exist) because of the very low wages. This is by design.

The same applies for other places too. It is all part of a race to the bottom due to attempts to increase profits by reducing (labour) costs.

Ever since Thatcher there's the neoliberal idea that the entire country can run on financial services and a handful of rich people alone.

Robots and AI are not and never will do the work nurses currently do. At least not for a very, very long time.

Given the number of vacancies in the NHS, I'd say there's plenty of capacity. And if not, the issue is funding, as the work, the sick, and the backlog all haven't disappeared.

Cutting care causes more people to be out of work. Cutting youth services increases criminal and anti-social behaviour. Cutting benefits causes an increase in homelessness, which causes an increase in shoplifting and drug abuse. All of it increases the costs of health care. I could go on for hours.

As someone recently mentioned: "there is always money for things that are considered important".

They are dumb enough not to understand that cutting expenditure increases costs elsewhere. Like in the NHS, police force, judiciary system, etc.

She's not allowed to say anything that isn't approved by Morgan McSweeney and Blue Labour.

Astonishing advance by the Greens, astonishing implosion of Labour. When will Starmer's government get the message that it is destroying its base with deeply unpopular, rightwing policies?

By chasing Reform, it legitimises the far right while delegitimising itself.

Latest poll puts Greens just two points behind Labour. When I said we weren't here to be disappointed in Labour but to replace them, I meant it.

Join us and let's make hope normal again.

Poll from find out now showing greens on 15 and labour and Tories on 17. Reform on 32.

It is more of a forced marriage with a very dominant and abusive partner who is watching your every move and has made very sure you can't leave.

The alternative is "kill" al the artists. I know which side I'm on.

They would love to return to Victorian times, when the rich were truely rich, had all the power, and the rest would have to work for them to increase that wealth, for a pittance, until they died.

Not too different from present day though, much of the UK (and the US) still operates that way...

Ah... But was she also a wizard? 🤣

p.s. it should be written as WAN, as it is the abbriviation of Wide Area Network. A name given to me by my peers at the time international data connections where x.25 based and the main protocol used was IPX.

I've witnessed a bubble like that about 25 years ago...

I didn't go initially, but my employer urged me to go (2 nights and 1 day a week, for 4 years) otherwise my career would stall.

I did learn things I didn't know before, I can't say it was responsible for career advances. It might have helped my confidence in starting my own business 5 years later.

The don't realize that while they're whipped up into a frenzy about foreigners and brown people, those that are doing the whipping are taking everything they have, and then some.

Like the tour guide on the bus said: "If you all now look to the right, you won't see what's happening on the left".

They are all carefully selected by the Peter Thiel and Steve Bannon pals of Blue Labour.

It is even more depressing for the people in Britain, who will suffer the consequences.

I still don't understand why people can be so stupid to look at what is going on in the US, and think "I'll have me some of that!".

Is that all that remained of the judge that wanted to convict him from handing over 40 million quid in council funds to a developer friend of his?
wanwizard.bsky.social
Also, I'm pretty sure there are far more British citizens on a very low wage than there are immigrants.
wanwizard.bsky.social
I'd say what has damaged the economy are the Tories, because of Brexit, and because they are the prime enabler of low wages. Their Donors and voters both demand it.

If low wages is really the problem, it is easily fixed by setting the minimum hourly wage to 25 quid.

It seems pretty clear to me now: Keir Starmer would rather lose to Reform than to the Labour left, which is his real enemy. Any policy that might recover lost ground with voters has to be struck down, as it looks like a concession to the Labour left. And he and his team cannot contemplate that.
wanwizard.bsky.social
They are all fearing Farage will win the next elections, and they are trying to outdo him.

They all want to be in power, because power equals money. None of them give a single toss about country or people.
wanwizard.bsky.social
"In order to beat Reform, we must become Reform". 🤬

And so we'll get Reform, as both the Tories and Labour do this, and as stupid as people are, they will rather vote for the original instead of a copy-cat.
