The whole caper rests on his supporters’ conviction that he’s on the side of white people and against non-white people. For as long as that conviction holds they’re prepared to set aside the evidence of their eyes.

It should appeal to the sector of MAGA that loves Putin. Putin invaded Ukraine in order to loot its natural resources. Trump is now showing that he can match that.

If the USA system allowed an official leader of the opposition, that person could declare right now that the ballroom would be demolished. But that can't happen until 2028, when the Democratic Party has a confirmed presidential candidate.

Under a parliamentary system there would be an official leader of the opposition who could make a firm statement now that this was a crime which would be prosecuted. With the dispersal of power in the US system that’s unfortunately not possible.

Yes, but for anyone who has followed his record with a bit of imagination it's no surprise that he's looking for ways to imprison his political opponents. It's just how autocrats think. We need to expect more of this.

The Russian view is fundamentally that Ukraine doesn’t exist, as a nation, a people, a culture, a language, an identity. Further, that to claim otherwise is to commit treason against Mother Russia.
