Last night, the wind took out a rather large pine tree shortly before I got to this section of road. There were ~8 people w/3 chainsaws, a leaf blower all working to get this cleared, had it passable in 15 min. Not sure if it was neighbors or a tree service, but impressive either way.

I sent my Matrix fan kid this Reel (the feeling when you plug in USB on the first try = am I The One?!) and it resulted in this conversation that amused me greatly. (screenshots). www.instagram.com/reel/DNLu3BT...

A well-written takedown of 2 of the masterminds behind our current aggressive lurch towards fascism, but after hopeful scenes of #nokings millions gathered in support of the ideals that I love about the US, I want to highlight the ending of the piece (1st screenshot)

Another entry in a seemingly unending series called "you should have had your local 13 year old boy review this artwork"
Because those characters don't exactly come across (pun very much intended) as ghosts.

Got in the car to go to my local #nokings protest in Manassas, and the Chaos Muppet Playlist served up Winds of Change by Scorpions. Good turnout, signs, support. I especially appreciated the grandparents with signs saying "I need to be able to tell my grandchildren I didn't stay silent"

Didn't realize until I swapped UPS batteries tonight how warm it was getting. It's in a vertical rack (not ideal for convection vs airflow direction) w/ 1RU server next to it.

Gonna go out on a limb and say that the temp sensor is having a bad time, possibly on account of the high humidity (it had been pouring rain all day)

I may still buy an automatic someday. I have a Seiko quartz I got before I knew about automatics, still wore it in place of the Fitbit for dress, but the Galaxy Watch Classic w/ a metal band & a decent watch face looks enough like a dress watch for my purposes. Even has a bezel & sweep second hand.

Fall Friday nights w/ a kid in HS band means sorta like the superb owl, I sit through lots of handegg for the entertaining bits.
But I can't be the only person who thinks repeatedly playing "pump up" music whose main background sound effect is a gunshot is in extremely poor taste. So very 'Murica!

Just because they're professionals doesn't mean their work is:
Replacing the light fixture in a bathroom, couldn't figure out why there wasn't a box until I cut into the drywall to move the wire over. They put the wire & anchors for light in 2" space between the 2 horiz pipe runs for the shower.

After some initial stability issues with OpenZFS, I've gotten in the habit of checking zpool status when I log in to my home server. Had a disk fail, realized I needed a better way to monitor, so I added zpool status -x to an existing /etc/update-motd.d script and now I get

Run to Richmond and back on one charge in the Ioniq 5 today. Large part of that was at 74-79mph, hence the low efficiency (4 is typical) but the time is skewed by sitting on 95 for 20+ min due to an accident and some other time sitting with the car on.

This helps to articulate some of the cognitive dissonance I feel most days around trying to pretend that life is in any way normal right now, especially as it regards the idea of supporting this regime still being merely a difference of political opinion.

yep, this integration + the below automation works. I wish I could just set the trigger for a time range instead of firing it manually on intervals, but it'll prevent me from coming out to a battery that didn't get charged overnight. Tested it with the time test disabled & it started charging.
