One of the best trumpet tones I have ever heard...and his reimagination of the Hoagy Carmichael standard is a thing of beauty, add that to The Man with the Horn added in, and Al Hirt was indeed a master of his craft. From the Greatest Trumpets Hits of All Time

He played with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Betty Carter. Woody Shaw, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers then drummer Tony Williams, and is one of best pianists in jazz history. From the LIVE 2002 Recording at the Kennedy Center, Part II with Derrick Hodge-B and Rodney Green-D
