This is low down on Stoppard's list of literary accomplishments, but this might be the best joke in any Spielberg film and I'm fairly certain it's a Stoppard insert.

Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

Goddam it, you linger briefly on one advert for a neck support pillow and that's it. The entire internet is now middle aged people winching and clutching their neck

This is a really good articulation of why it feels like I (and Marie! And probably you and lots of others) feel like I am losing my mind daily
this week's newsletter is titled "aren't you tired of feeling insane all the time?" and I think it speaks for itself

it is also free to read

Born February 22, 1975, Drew Barrymore is 18,530 days old today, matching Wilford Brimley’s age on the day ‘Cocoon’ was released. Congrats Drew! You’ve reached the Brimley/Cocoon Line.

Is House of Dynamite the most absurdly cast film of all time? Kaitlyn Dever from Booksmart has three lines. Prince Eric from live action little mermaid pops up in the last 15mins, as does the (always incredible) Renée Elise Goldberry. Every single minor role is someone absurdly over qualified.

you can't just bring back austin powers. the franchise wrote itself into a corner after he volunteered to stay behind forever in the shagadelic dimension to save foxxy and vanessa. they already brought him back once without explaining how he escaped from fembot island, the audience won't buy it
