#Research & #Design at @merlan.bsky.social ⟹ Narrow of purpose, wide of vision. ツ
An interesting looking new 📘 book.

Some great examples of #Architecture in this space. I'm a particular fan of the #SamScorer designed hyperbolic paraboloid roof structure used for Markham Moor petrol station (subsequently a Little Chef, then a Starbucks).

#JoeCaroff also designed the #Poster for #TheBeatles ‘A Hard Day's Night’ (1964).

I'm doing some work setting up for #RemoteResearch activities and thinking how useful it would be to have a Government approved, secure method to allow participants to test their webcam, microphone, speakers, internet speed and screen sharing permissions prior to joining a remote research session.

3. Realise one of the listed resources is something I created in (but haven't updated since) ~2020. 😄

In process of unpicking myself from various digital services/subscriptions, I'm replacing the #SmartSpeaker setup in my office with a pleasantly minimalist stereo which offers;

💿 CD Player (support #PhysicalMedia !).
📻 #InternetRadio connectivity (for #RadioParadise)
🔌 Wired & Wireless expansion.

Always found #Shorthand interesting.

Ended up going down the rabbit hole of ‘Dutton Speedwords’ (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutton_...) recently after flicking through a book on the subject in our local secondhand bookshop. 🙂

In the UK, vehicle tax status was indicated by a paper disc, which people could easily see displayed on their vehicle windscreen to know when their tax expired and required renewal.

Community Printer.

Not as a commercial occupation but instead providing support in creating posters/zines/etc. to support local people and events while looking to move the skills involved (#Letterpress, #Lithography, etc.) off of Heritage Craft red lists (www.heritagecrafts.org.uk/categories-o...).

A really interesting read, thanks for sharing.

Great to see the mention of the #Commodore #Amiga and its' role in moving digital drawing software forward. I've recently unearthed my copy of 🖌 #DeluxePaint which I'd forgotten was distributed in a #Vinyl record type sleeve/cover. 😄

Some interesting conversation relating to the #GovUKApp was around the use of branding to promote trust and confidence.

Based on this, surprising there isn't a set structure/template in use for app icons across the currently available apps.

The ongoing homogenisation of #Logos and #Brands, the move for everything to become a bland sea on san-serifs, such a disappointing aspect of modern Design.

Not all of #PaulRand 's logos¹ were classics but they were interesting.

… with a close second being copies of the DVD Game versions of #DragonsLair I, II & III (but sadly no Space Ace). 🤔

As you mention, it used to be an absolute treasure trove of obscure items. 😄
