⎇ Alterhuman Writer & Artist ⎇
This comes from the experience of writing my senior capstone on otherkin at a time when the Field Guide was an out-of-print, non-pirated, library-inaccessible, $200 mess. I'm now lucky enough to have some physical household copies and a digital version, but it wasn't always so. Heed my warning.

It will save you a world of being annoyed at utterly inaccessible citations in ten years when/if this disappears, so grab it *now* instead of wishing you had *later*. If you can't afford to pre-order, then I highly recommend you suggest to your local library that they carry it.

If it's any consolation, I've had someone accuse my personal website of being AI-generated before, even though you can see its slow-updating history on the Wayback Machine + Tumblr. I think it's an inevitability as AI gets better and better at mimicking that artists get caught in the crossfire. :(

Thank you, Shimi! I'm sorry to have had to ask. I think they were worried since they didn't see an anti-AI art part of the book description anywhere and wanted to make sure.

Thank you for making this memoir, I'm really excited to get to read it.

Just bought mine! My friends want to know before they purchase: was AI used in the writing or art of this book?

I just bought one, and I'll drop a link to some of my alterhuman friends! I know some of the other historians and archivists I know are for sure gonna want copies.

I'm not really sure what else to say, but it's a little funny that you thought the essay was about the fur industry from its description and tried to use that as a 'gotcha' in a conversation thread I already stated I didn't want to pursue further. Make your positions clear, don't misrepresent mine.

... Are you talking about My Fur Is Not Your Coat (pyrotalons.itch.io/my-fur-is-no...), an essay by my nonhuman system on our multiplicity? Because the title is a metaphor. My species doesn't technically have actual fur. And I'm also not the sole person behind that, just one co-author.

I don't believe that I have. -tilts head- What essay are you talking about?
October 28, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Even if it feels like what you say goes ignored or rejected, you never know who will be touched or changed by your words. Even if not everyone or a majority of people disagree with you, it's worth still engaging in these conversations to offer wider perspectives. I appreciate what you've said here.

While I don't seek to engage in this topic further with you due to a dismissal of my health problems-- something understandable, because these are personal experiences and unless you share a body with me, you can't be expected to understand their severity-- I *do* think that you should keep writing.

I think it's healthy for people to discuss their relationship to food as related to their therianthropy, and to look closer at the food ethics intertwined with their lives and choices; I think the community would benefit from more essays/zines/comics on the topic from different perspectives.

I wrote an essay about this topic back in 2021 for an alterhuman NaNoWriMo project: invisibleotherkin.neocities.org/files/IAlway... It's unedited, but explains my thoughts on the subject in my own life.

You should consider writing something more long-form about your relationship to food ethics.
