“I’ll never forget the look of hatred he had for me, simply for existing.... Nigel Farage has suggested it’s inconceivable that anyone could recall such events of more than four decades ago. I would simply ask: can a victim of such abuse ever forget?” Yinka Bankole
I’ll never forget the look of hatred Nigel Farage had for me at school, simply for existing
The Reform UK leader doubts people can recall their abuse from years ago. I’ve never forgotten his – it felt malicious

Just remembered this – a lockdown version of Nobody's Twisting Your Arm, with Pete Solowka temporarily back in the fold on accordion.

Take it away, Grapper!

Breaking: it turns out that I’ve been pronouncing “synecdoche” wrong for most of my adult life, or at least I would have done had I ever *said* it rather than merely thinking it – although to be honest I’ve rarely thought it either. Anyway, I would have got away with it but I thought I’d come clean

My wife is marking some overseas English writing exams and one story has just started with the following knockout sentence "My parents and I first went to the toilet to empty our bowels, then walked to a map'.

Brilliant day yesterday - a Parkrun then caught up with pals I hadn't seen for a while in Todmorden. After that it was off to Hebden Bridge to see Patrick Fitzgerald (ex-Kitchens of Distinction) play a wonderful set of old and new tunes at @thetradesclub.bsky.social which absolutely blew me away.

Betty Mackereth, Philip Larkin's feisty long term secretary, immortalised in the 1962 poems Toads Revisited, has passed away today aged 101. Betty was a great supporter of the Philip Larkin Society. We send our condolences to her family.

We had a German teacher called Mrs Cunningham at our comprehensive school. She was a massive Paul McCartney fan and for one lesson we had to translate No More Lonely Nights. It seems like the lamest thing ever at the time. But I just pulled out the 7 ", played it and welled up because it's a TUNE.
