Yes, but also there’s only so much you can tax the wealthy before capital flees (sounds cliche, but has happened in Nordic countries.)

For a more robust welfare state, seems like we need two things: higher taxes across the board; and more efficiency in our government.
winedad.bsky.social
He made two happen, as memory serves. Guess we’ll see if this one sticks 🤞

You may be right... I was more reading that graph as all ceasefire violations (not necessarily who violated terms first.)

Every human life matters.

I just think it's disingenuous to discount the vicious pogrom that preceded the war (just as it's disgusting when people ignore all of Israel's war crimes before or since.)
winedad.bsky.social
He obviously could've done more to end the war (sanctions, blockade, etc.) Totally fair to criticize his "bear hug" approach as naive and ineffective.

I guess... if you cherry pick the data by ignoring October 7th.

Same could be said about Iran and Qatar (just with less success due to Iron Dome.)

Hell, why doesn’t Egypt open their border and help setup a temporary refugee camp in the Sinai… they could’ve saved thousands of civilians.

Plenty of blame to go around.

Indeed.

I believe both sides broke terms of the ceasefires. Hamas and the Israeli right are obviously not interested in peace.

And If it were an easy conflict for outsiders to solve, it wouldn’t still be going on four generations later (or more, depending on who you ask.)

If memory serves, he helped broker two ceasefires.

I think Pulp Fiction was in theatres the last time he weighed 224.

If memory serves, he was kind of a bigot in the eighties… guess he grew out of it 🤷‍♂️

I’m skeptical… everyone involved is clearly acting in bad faith. But if it happens, you gotta wonder what Trump is promising off the record.

A lot of it was just charisma… something you either have or you don’t.

Quite telling that every left leaning politician or pundit had to lock comments on their October 7th anniversary posts yesterday.

If we make it though the midterms without a constitutional crisis, it’ll be interesting to see which Republicans (if any) start angling for 2028. Donnie’s not gonna handle that with grace.

I can see your point if it's like a public figure... or someone with a giant following. But I've seen it happen to small accounts too (which is mainly what I was referring to.)

Where's the line though?

I'm cool w/calling people out on their bad opinions, blocking them if need be, even banning accounts that make threats.

But dogpiling someone is definitely bullying. And if you call someone's job to try and get them fired, that goes well beyond bullying or accountability.

Most of LA’s “city” problems are the result of low info suburban voters with stage 4 carbrain (too much parking, too much asphalt, not enough housing, etc. etc.)

Seems like he has more in common with Nixon than Reagan… but with half the intellect and twice the hubris.

Vice signaling by wasting tens of thousands of dollars of your constituents tax base (and bungling traffic for the day.) These people are such incredible dipshits.

I situation I have some empathy for (the rent *is* too damn high!)

Just seems weird to have animosity towards Buttigieg about it. He's probably in favor of most policies that would right that ship (and it's not like he was some rich kid born on third base.)

Should be noted that California has other taxes that sorta offset our regressive property taxes (income, sales, gas, utilities, etc. etc.)

Am guessing these are less cumbersome in red states where property taxes might be less regressive?

(I’m not an expert though, so curious what others think?)

There was an old tweet (which I can’t find) that I think really crystallizes the sentiment.

For downwardly mobile hipsters, he reminds them of their parents at the holidays asking “why can’t you be more like that nice, successful boy from college, Peter Buttigieg?”
