Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.

All I can really say at this point is if everyone isn't watching how trans people have lost basic rights and protections on a scale that hasn't been seen in decades in the span of 72 hours and realizing that even if you aren't trans there's nothing stopping it from happening to you, you're a fool

Over the past 4–5 years, Facebook has sunset tools (chiefly CrowdTangle) used by researchers and journalists, made data difficult and expensive to get, and iced out academics studying disinformation.

Now, it's shutting down the fact checking on its platform.

I’m excited to share a data art project I’ve been working on this month! It’s a quilt made using the data of all the books I read in 2023 📊
A photo a crinkly and colorful quilt. It’s made up of 28 color coded squares each encoding a book read, listed in 7 rows of 4 quilt squares. Small hand made stitches add texture to the quilt. The quilt is pictured again, one is highlighted and describes the structure of the quilt “each block represents one book I read in 2023 for a total of 28 books” A horizontal bar chart is made up of photo-clipped quilt squares. It shows that I read 8 fantasy books, 5 data visualization books, and 1 thriller book amongst other categories of contemporary fiction and historical fiction. A histogram shows the number of books I read of each length, 13 of which were between 300-400 pages with one outlier of length 582.

Musk retweeting Tucker Carlson claiming that American youtuber Gonzalo Lira was being tortured for criticizing Zelensky. Community Notes points out that Lira violated Ukraine's criminal code, including exposing the location of journalists and soldiers. Musk quote tweeting Gonzalo Lira's tweet in which he notes he's trying to escape Ukraine and seek asylum in Hungary. Musk asks Joe Biden "what is the status of this American journalist." Community Notes points out that Lira is a YouTuber, and that he violated Ukraine's community code, revealing the location of Western journalists and Ukrainian soldiers. Elon responding to the fact that he was community noted, saying "Interesting. This Note is being gamed by state actors. Will be helpful in figuring who they are. Thanks for jumping in the honey pot, guys lmao!" Community Notes responds: "Community Notes requires agreement from contributors of differing perspectives, as such it is highly resistant to gaming.
