(Plus XP share is a godsend, like you mentioned- I feel like most people who dislike it have just attributed grinding with "challenge" when grinding isnt really challenging or difficult, its just kinda tedious- and at this point pretty unnecessary)

where both the writing and mechanics start to come into themselves more and be a more consistently fun to play.

People bitch about em but I think the newer generations are a lot better from a writing perspective, which kinda balances out their mechanical issues a bit

I think the older games stories are also pretty middling? Like generally they're fine but the writing isn't amazing or particularly interesting- as someone who's completed the first 3 gens, almost beaten the 4th and has played some of the 5th, honestly the 5th gen onward is-

I think Pokemon got better in the later gens because I’m not walking two steps and having a combat thrust onto me at rapid intervals

Caves in particular SUCK to go through because theyre always so tedious, and it feels very… “designed this way just to waste your time”

My RPG nitpick is when the numbers get so high that they stop mattering, so damage/healing/mp is more of a concept than an actual track-worthy set of statistics and information

Like at that point why use numbers to begin with when they dont matter
