the hop farm back then was owned by a guy whose family had been growing hops for generations, and the workers during the season were nz'ers- some local, some transient. the farm is now american owned, and the workers are Nz RSE contracted.

nz basically provides the land for the hops to grow on:)

i worked seasonally on one of the largest hop farms in nz in the early 80's to 90's. iirc over 90% of product then was export.
