I think we need to talk about the phrase “surveillance state”—which implies that government is the perpetrator. We’re past that. We’re in a surveillance economy, a hegemony of surveillance culture, from marketing down to the Meta glasses boy.

I beg your fucking pardon?

So now we must discuss Sinners
The thing is I can watch a spooky/unsettling show but if you don’t give me a 100% satisfying ending I will be UPSET for a LONG TIME and I will talk about it CONSTANTLY

I’m not saying being a transphobe makes you ugly, but consider Kiera Knightly’s fuckass bob and draw your own conclusions 💁🏻‍♀️

One of the things that I haven’t seen much of (and maybe I just missed it) is a discussion of how Tweeness came to symbolize a sincerity that was lacking in political discourse. I really want to read that and see if anyone has anything to say re young adults today.

“Well I wrote about it” is a fantastically telling statement of what she thinks writing is meant to accomplish. She thinks admitting her errors is enough to excuse them. That being held accountable NOW is unthinkable bc she feels she has already “paid the price” & so any negativity, is undue.

this is incredible but also i am a little worried this copy of Moby Dick doubles as a sentient grimoire for vengeance (a grimoire that will turn on you obv)
kind of obsessed with this custom binding for Moby dick by Susan and Chaim Ebanks at Exeter Bookbinders

Well, it happened. I saw Sinners. I really think theaters need to do end of the year recaps bc I’m sad I didn’t see it there. But what do I know.

Honestly. Nothing—and I mean nothing—has radically improved my belief in my worth as a writer than seeing how badly a nepo baby can fuck up and still be published.
i want to thank olivia nuzzi for giving me the confidence to start seriously considering writing a book.
Oh man! This paragraph is brutal. The best thing about this review is it's not trying to be mean. It's just listing how bad the writing is.

the night before the first big snow and my Lorelei-Gilmore-ass friends and I really do start stepping out into our yards and onto our porches, and looking up at the sky + wistfully breathing deeply of the cold air, and otherwise behaving in what is, for New Englanders, an extremely dramatic manner

Me taking my queer ass to my right-wing in-laws’ place for a brief masked Thanksgiving visit
I love this photo of a male ocellated turkey (Meleagris ocellata) by Charles J. Sharp because it looks like it's mid-ballet. The 'danseur noble' takes the stage.

'Ocellated' is from Latin 'ocellus' meaning "little eye", referring to the eye-like spots on the tail feathers...

oh Americans may not understand this, but a 'magistrate' in the UK is a local volunteer with typically no legal background. But it's ok, they receive about 10 days of training. And now they can send you to jail for two years without a jury!

Yesterday was Indigenous People's Day, but Indigiqueer reads can be enjoyed all year long.

I have recommended quite a few queer books by Indigenous authors in the past, but this week's recs are fresh and full of good stories.

Oooh—will probably be switching browsers soon then
So, I'm really kind of fucking annoyed and disappointed with Mozilla enabling AI in Firefox by default and not giving users a simple opt out switch.

I have disabled it in my firefox via 'about:config' , if you want to too, here's how to disable it completely or enable certain bits you find useful
