On being Hong Konger Canadian in Canada. Also on Christianity, intersectionality, psychology. Not posting about Hong Kong so much as being Hong Konger Canadian.
Another in between animation which goes from a photo of young children to older children, where the transition is of distorted the bodies of children being contorted and flying across the floor. You don't notice this at high speed so much but this is where the technology is right now.

These are in between frames between actual photos taken, but this is some dystopian looking stuff happening here when you can use AI-generation to drop "congregants" into a worship setting.

Part of what was so troubling was seeing blatant promotions for "fee for merit" posters.

I have respect for Buddhist philosophies, but this is not the kind of stuff I endorse.

Toronto HongKongers Action Group has been spewing partisan opinions for a while now, and have been affiliated with the People's Party of Canada in the last election. Despite their previous advocacy for Hong Kongers, there are some serious problems with their current approach.

This take is... I've seen similar arguments from from tankies in the past, essentially defending China's problems by highlighting China's successes.

As far as security issues, this is calling for Canada to align with China in relation to the Taiwanese Strait???

And yes, this has mostly upvotes.

Comment dismissing Canadian criticism of China's human rights violations, BECAUSE we aren't as harsh on other countries, and BECAUSE this is siding with the US? I mean, we should really not take it easy on any of them for this sort of thing?
June 29, 2025 at 3:07 AM
The post starts off by saying next to nothing about human rights abuses while highlighting China's technological advances. This is EXACTLY what China's propaganda machine wants by the way.

This sign interestingly caught my attention, I'm reading this as the idea that there are LGBTQ+ individuals signalling to Christians for their inclusion here in Toronto

The Conservatives with Pierre Poilievre put out a statement on the Chinese head tax apology.

It pisses me off that this labels the early Chinese as "hard working" when this has more to do with White racists, going beyond a couple of racist government policies.

For a comparison, Scott Wall's study is hits cloest to home for me in its discussion of Chinese Canadian Christians in the GTA. One of the participants notably calls their Chinese church too Chinese, which is quite telling of this intergenerational conflict.
