Last week, when the BJHS article by @cberiksen.bsky.social and I received the Margaret W. Rossiter History of Women in Science Prize at HSS Mérida, I wrote a 🧵 on X sharing our research process.

Now I'll redo it on BlueSky, this time with more images of our archival sources: 🗃️ #HistSci #EarlyModern

Today people went around my neighborhood in north east London spray painting St George’s crosses onto people’s homes. Many of these houses have non British people living in them.

This is getting very dark, very quick.

Deeply disturbed to see today's 'Unite the Kingdom' march in London with 100,000+ attendees.

This was likely the largest far-right protest in British history and was led by Tommy Robinson and addressed by Elon Musk.

The far right are emboldened like never before. But, here's the good news... 🧵

Does anyone in the UK have career advice for a 40 yr-old academic - historian of science and medicine - who may need to build a new career outside the academy? This is a serious request - any ideas and tips would be much appreciated.

“In the late 1960s, Dr. Rossiter was working on her Ph.D. at Yale, when a comment from one of her male professors puzzled her. Who, she had asked, were the women in science? There were none, he said. Another professor mumbled something about Marie Curie being the exception.”🙃

I’m very happy to announce that I’ve been awarded an IRFD Starting Grant for the project “Sovereign Flowers: Flora Danica and the Emergence of the National Flora, 1750–1900.” Hooray! The project allows me to build a small research group of a PhD student and a postdoc at Aarhus University (@au.dk).

The brilliant @lmbd1418.bsky.social has suggested people write to the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper re: my case. If you could spare five minutes, she's created a draft letter which you can use to send to [email protected]. I appreciate everyone's support. ❤️

This is getting close to 150K signatures now. It might not do anything, but it will serve as evidence for the future that the UK government were aware of the opposition of its own people to its complicity in the Israeli genocide on Gaza & the fact that it did nothing to stop it.

I shared the link yesterday, but (UK citizens only please) the Gaza petition to UK parliament is here if you're looking for it; just cracked 76k and the rate at which people are signing is creeping up; currently 4500/hour and only needs 347 signatures every hour for the next 3 days to hit 100k
Petition: Urgently fulfil humanitarian obligations to Gaza
Act to ensure deliverer of fuel, food, aid, life saving services etc. We think this shouldn't be dependant/on condition of Israeli facilitation as the Knesset voted against UNWRA access to Gaza. We th...
