The Silmarillion: Ainulindalë

Now the Valar took to themselves shape and hue; and because they were drawn into the World by love of the Children of Ilúvatar, for whom they hoped, they took shape after that manner which they had beheld in the Vision of Ilúvatar, save only in majesty and splendour. Moreover their shape comes of their knowledge of the visible World, rather than of the World itself; and they need it not, save only as we use raiment, and yet we may be naked and suffer no loss of our being.
Therefore the Valar may walk, if they will, unclad, and then even the Eldar cannot clearly perceive them, though they be present. But when they desire to clothe themselves the Valar take upon them forms some as of male and some as of female; for that difference of temper they had even from their beginning, and it is but bodied forth in the choice of each, not made by the choice, even as with us male and female may be shown by the raiment but is not made thereby. But the shapes wherein the Great Ones array themselves are not at all times like to the shapes of the kings and queens of the Children of Ilúvatar; for at times they may clothe themselves in their own thought, made visible in forms of majesty and dread.

Wow. Did he inherit the house? My grandparents were in a two bedroom house with four kids and one bathroom. I’m so glad that your family was blessed.

I hope you get to see Gandalf confront Saruman and break his staff.

This isn’t new or insightful, but when we watch TV, everyone is rich. Everyone. Even when they’re “poor” they have a home. I love several shows on Apple TV, but no one lives like that. It didn’t start with Friends. Watching people live above their means has an effect on our expectations.

Wow. This is some NPR level bullshit. Do we get a The Onion pitch about how serious the journalism is and how balanced and how much it’s needed for democracy to flourish, and then immediately do an interview with a conservative and not fact check them or push back in any way?

Slowly king-ifying (or emperor-itizing?) the presidency. Sad.

Gonna just skip the hard part of becoming a type I civ without the work.

These rich assholes really think they can conjure hypothetical sci-fi infrastructure from their fever dreams.

I was truly not interested in GoT continuing, I started reading it in high school and then watched most of the show and I’m done. But Doors of Stone, man. That, I’d really like to read.

Most of the time, kindness costs you nothing. But for the person who receives it, it can change that moment, their day, their mood, or their life for the better.

Be kind.
