(Maybe this makes no business sense but it’s what I want!)

This might be an unpopular opinion but I think all books should come out first as a paperback. Treat the hardcover edition as a deluxe reissue for real fans and collectors.

It’s cheap?! Where do you live, because in my town it’s impossible to get a decent used record for under 30 dollars. Stuff that used to be in the dollar bin now goes for 15 or more. (People tell me I should blame Discogs.)

I miss the days when I was still collecting but it wasn’t popular.

I was deeply immersed in these books when 9/11 happened, and imagine my dismay when I discovered Orson Scott Card's blog about freedom fries. It was so hard to understand how the same person who wrote so beautifully about having empathy for an insect hive mind could be so dehumanizing to muslims.

I still think there's some really beautiful ideas in Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead about having empathy for people from a culture that is alien to you and whose reality is ultimately unknowable to you. It's not without its problems, but there's something to engage with there.

Yeah, totally. I was a bit too old to get on the Harry Potter train, but I'm sureI would have been all over it if I'd been born a few years later and it would have been transformative. (I was a Stephen King kid... and you know, there's some problematic stuff there, too.)
