I promised film scans, here there are:

This is no alternative to Ektachrome.

Kodak might be unintentionally making a pretty acceptable 50 ISO tungsten balanced "lower" contrast and saturation slide film (with some amount of magenta/green shift)

Again, it's a negative film for planes

E-6 Cross processed Kodak Aerocolor IV (REFLX Pro 100 in this case. It's same film as SantaColor 100 and Elektra 100. Probably other rebrand exist)

Rating it EI 50 (so, box speed +1EV), 85B warming + Skylight 1A filters.

This looks too good to be a hack, like WTF?

Will do real scans later...

Searching stuff inside the scan of a old paper from 1922. The OCR that was used on the PDF read the greek letter gamma (γ) as a 7. Which is slightly annoying when this is a paper about sensitometry.

(Interestingly they use a geometric method of obtaining the gamma, not the analytical one)

I really really this image to be softer contrast. To illustrate, here’s a digitally made inversion of the above picture

Retaining the highlights and getting shadow details exposed and developed are the 2 things that should allow getting more of the tonal range of the slide expressed on paper.

This is the negative exposure developed. It kinda looks like if this was film, was pushed many many stops.

Maybe this result is effectively a low exposure over developed. It’s really hard to know.

Also this grey-ish thing is the maximum silver density on this color paper developed in BW

All the test prints. First few are too blue.

I need to think about which of the 3 ways of reducing contrast I should try to test first. (May need all three of them combined)
June 15, 2025 at 2:53 AM
This is a scan of the slide.

You can see there is a lot of dynamic range lost on the printing process. I have 3 things I can attempt:

- use a low contrast BW developer as 1st dev before reversal exposure
- pre-flash the paper
- retard color development with sodium sulfite

This is a very first attempt of doing RA-4 reversal printing from one ektachrome frame.

I simply used ILFORD Multigrade black and white developer as 1st developer and just waved the print for a minute I for of a light before color development though the normal RA-4 process.

Need lower contrast

Businesses, you do not need to put this bullshit in the footer of your emails. This is not going to fix climate change

I may actually write a blerb about this maybe on my mostly abandoned blog

A rarely documented online cause of shutter failure for Canon A-series (here AE-1 Program) cameras is the "SW4 Count Switch" not actually closing after the 1st curtain latch is armed if it's dirty, or corroded (or both)

This happens way too often

Wake up to only one of the AirPods in the case having recharged overnight.

A few straight RA-4 darkroom prints of @harmanphoto.co.uk Phoenix 200 on Fuji crystal archive paper

Lack of orange mask and purple-ish base are non-issue. Just do test strips. Had to filter out a lot of yellow interestingly. It is just different than Kodak/fuji but it works just fine.

one day youtube will understand that I do not want to see shorts on my desktop computer

Mine is an older Zorki 4 (non K) from 1963 and it’s setup with the before-mentioned Jupiter 9 and a 85mm finder!

If anybody is curious, this is the color of Fujicolor Crystal Archive Photo Paper. The cyan is an anti halation dye.

You are not supposed to see this but apparently this 4x5 sheet was out when I turned the lights on so now it’s ruined lol.

In today's time, those cinema color film with the remjet removed (stuff like CineStill 800T) are the more susceptible kind of film for this sort of artifacts....

Made the mistake of trusting the Godox Lux Master flash’s auto mode (wich does not work as good as actual vintage thyristor flashes it seems😕), I have under exposed some ektachorme by a bit more than a stop or two.

But, despite how dense the actual film is, the result scanned relatively well

Canceling a Chess dot com subscription is a 5 page form of surveys with the big highlighted button being "keep my subscription"

Annoying, and somewhat dark pattern-ish. That would already be bad.

But also it just does not work, it results in a server error.

@nileane.fr as far as EDC goes, I am French, and - granted I work from home and I generally don’t bring it out with me in town - I have a Swiss Army Knife handy at almost all times.

A Victorinox Deluxe Tinker. Great Pliers and scissors integrated in that.

This one is a gift from my mom!
