Belgian-born, immigrant in Ireland (Kerry). Pansexuel cisgender father, also gay, and slightly queer. Definitely leftist. Cocktail enthusiast, digital all-rounder (business analyst is my current job, at a public institution - views are only mine).

While I am talking about music, you have to have a look to the recordings of Le Guess Who?, the best music festival (I know) in the world. There are incredible recordings, including this year's concert of Ali Sethi & Nicolás Jaar. And it's all free!

I'm building a playlist of recent independant irish music releases I want to listen to (so not much irish folk). I found some articles for 2025, but if any of you has a consistent source to keep updated about those releases, I'm all in! (and here is the playlist, on Tidal: tidal.com/playlist/1b7...)

Et à Bruxelles?
The priest at a Catholic church in Dedham defended his parish’s decision to replace nativity figurines of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph with a sign reading “ICE was here,” saying the gospel is clear about treating immigrants with respect. trib.al/Ob5ptDw

In Lebanon. Can hear the Israeli drone constantly now. I’ve only been back for a day but folks here deal with it 24/7, for months. It’s psychological torture. You can even see it, just flying around. The Israelis want to let everyone know that they can kill whoever they want whenever they want.

On a side note, public transports in Dublin are a shame. You have 5000 inhabitants/km2, you can't move then with double deckers stucked in the traffic and 2 (two) inexplicably slow tram lines...

I must say that I had lost hope on finding a great coktail bar in Ireland. I was very careful to not upping my hopes regarding Bar1661 in Dublin, because the "best cocktail bar of x" often doesn't live-up to the hype. I was wrong. The bar is great, people are great, cocktails are amazing.

In Ireland, you get the best of both world: you pay social security AND you are kind of expexted to take a private health insurance (especially if you aren't Irish).
Maybe I’m too Norwegian, but it’s weird to me that Americans don’t consider health insurance a form of taxation.

The rail network and service is *really* limited in Ireland. It's not too expensive (300km journey between Dublin and Cork - the two biggest city - full price 2nd class ticket is 40e), seems to be reliable though quite slow (3h for the journey). I miss the train service from continental Europe...

On avait averti. On avait prévenu.

To be honest, I am not sure videogame exist because there are white teens to buy them. I think they exist because there are women/queer/neurodivergent/... artists that want to create that kind of experiences

Great piece, but I really believe that we have to stop saying that right-wing parties adopt xenophobic legislation to fight far-right. We know from experience that it doesn't and has never worked.. They know it too. I believe they see a strong far-right as an opportunity for them to stay in power.

One pair of numbers nicely illustrates where the Irish housing crisis actually originates.
* There were 1000 housing units awaiting planning permission due to judicial review in 2024.
* In 2024 there were more than 80,000 housing units with planning permission on which construction had not started.
