It shows that despite class, the people of York would still come together at times of celebration. 

The image allows for understanding of York as a community and allows us to look at the past, connecting to the theme of Your Archives, as we can see what historical events were like

The photograph shows the Rose Window in the South Transept, with the fire being visible from behind the window on the roof of the Minster.

JW Knowles and Sons [c1861-1953] were a family firm of glass painters, restorers and church decorators based in Stonegate, York. Their house on Stonegate is currently occupied by the Wyse clothes store and still retains some of their original glass work inside it.

Our collection of Goodricke and Pigott papers underwent some changes as part of our Setting the Record Straigh project last year.

The animals that make up the constellations depicted in the observations and our panorama are a little fox (Vulpecula), a swan (Cygnus), and an eagle (Aquila). We may be cheating a little bit as these animals are not pets, but they are lovely none the less!

Created by artist Emily Harvey and co-created with 600 residents of York, the Panorama showcases what York meant to its residents in 2015. It was part of the Gateway to History project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Every arch, every carving, and every detail is a reminder that beauty isn't just something we see...It's something we feel. It's the quiet awe, the craftsmanship of hands long gone, and the way sunlight turns the old stone of the Minster walls into something divine.
