Hey sickos!

I'm Yuki, a gender-confused ace-adjacent porn peddler, sometimes J-E translator (The House in Fata Morgana, etc.) and more often programmer (fulltime MangaGamer, making all manner of erotic and non-erotic game), living on the outskirts of Tokyo while watching more anime than is healthy.

I was the head J-E translator on this title, handling the majority of the main story and UI.

moving a bunch of data around for organization/cleanup purposes and there was one file on my OS drive (nvme ssd, separate data partition) that was spitting CRC errors trying to read it. fortunately it was a rar file with a recovery record so I didn't lose anything but still minorly annoying 😔

also, now that I'm finished, I tried to look up sudo ren (the one external writer who made anything good) and there's just... no information at all? anywhere? neither vndb nor japanese sources have a JP rendering of their name because the credits are all in english. so, that sucks! #100yuki

#13B Romance / 恋しちゃったんだ編

Of all the "story's canceled, we're doing something completely different" routes, this is far and away the best. The setup is obviously dumb as rocks, but the laser focus on small, interpersonal moments between characters that never had that opportunity on the main route(s) is genuinely nice. Funny, sweet, and earnest, with tons of great banter and character moments and without feeling like it diverges too much from established personalities.
On a mechanical level, Koizumi's probably the strongest non-Kodaka writer on the roster, which makes it even more of a shame that this is the only (substantial) route he was involved in. (I imagine he was probably too busy with Danganronpa 2x2's alternate scenario to stick around for long.) The script's just got this really nice rhythm to it—few wasted words or needless repetition, never over-explanatory or feels like it doesn't trust you to read between the lines. It goes down super smooth all around.
With how many dud routes there are, I'm glad I was able to end the game on a good note!

I'm not sure it's possible to review a game like this as an single work and be coherent about it. There's so many disparate pieces, so many different voices, such a wide range of ideas, styles, writing quality, and even production values from route to route. Hundred Line itself is not a cohesive whole, but a collage. A collection of dioramas, built from the same pieces but each arranged in their own way, painted in their own colors.
And that's super cool. It's a fantastic idea!
The problem that sort of undermines the whole conceit is that... most of those dioramas are also kinda junk—poorly constructed and not worth looking at at all. Off the main path, there are only four routes (of twenty) I feel successfully justify their existence—Box of Calamity, Cult of Takumi, V'ehxness, and Retsnom—and only one of them don't credit Kodaka for writing. (Romance is good on its own merits but is so far detached from everything that it ultimately doesn't make the cut.)
It's so incredibly lopsided that I can't help but wish they went for a more focused experience instead. When it's good, it's *incredible*, and when it's bad, it's a soul-crushing slog.

I respect the honesty in warning up front that there's going to be no substance here. And tbh I don't even mind lighthearted slice-of-life antics, I just wish the antics themselves weren't all lowbrow light novel bullshit. It's like watching early Classroom of the Elite arcs lol.

From the initial branch (don't tell the crew about your time loop) up to the story lock.
I'm not sure if Uchikoshi was just more motivated for this than Mystery or the reduced pressure of knowing nothing matters anymore makes it easier to go down, but I had a lot of fun with this setup. He's still piloting a completely different cast from any of the other writers, and I don't like how quick he is to turn every single scene into a joke, even when it's extremely inappropriate. But this side doesn't feel as blatantly half-assed (he still does the "all 15 people in the room say !! one after another" bullshit though).
Funny though that it turns out my initial impression of Slasher (that it was a rejected Uchikoshi idea) was very much in the correct ballpark lol.

At the end of the day, the Mystery/SF duology is a decent *idea* for a story that's, frankly, not very well constructed and does not even remotely belong in this game. All the cross-route foreshadowing and seed-planting would work better in isolation and with its own set of characters. As it is, so many of the pieces we pick up on this route are the result of characters being forced to act in the name of the story rather than in line with their established personalities.
It's genuinely incredible how forced it all feels—Takumi getting bored ten minutes into a cross-timeline stakeout and going to play in the rain, causing them to miss their window to catch the killer is... mindbogglingly stupid and out-of-character. (And just because he says it's dumb in the text doesn't make it any less so.)
On top of that, it relies on too many weird developments that don't make sense in the context of the rest of the game or outright contradict it—the upgraded mind control machine, the explanation of the emergency escape device claiming they never intended the freak crew to meet up with the main crew when every other route says otherwise, the brain parasite antivirus program (and it fixing Eito). The escape sequence turning out to be a trap is a massive wet fart, narratively speaking, and the final couple weeks are especially egregious as it throws a whole bunch more never-before-seen elements into the mix out of fucking nowhere in a halfhearted attempt to squeeze a conclusion out of the whole mess.
The tangled web of characters fucking around in other timelines and multi-rail drifting bullshit would probably be fun as their own separate game (if a bit standard-fare Uchikoshi), free of the baggage that comes with the story everyone else is telling. It just *doesn't work* here. It requires way too many compromises to the story as established to be able to function.
