Honestly this is a big thing inspiring me to work on graphic novels, because it feels more normal for teens and adults to read more slice of life, romance, etc stories. It’s really a win.
The rise in popularity of manga in the US is a net positive, because it normalizes and creates more demand for comics made for teens/adults outside the superhero genre.
Whatever gets people reading any comics at all—regardless of type, format or style—is good actually!

with peace and love, I'm pretty deeply invested in American comics and Japanese comics both, and I'm not sure that pitting them against each other has ever been the answer. I'm still developing a strong take, but it feels like asking if Cinnamon Toast Crunch is beating cheeseburgers in the polls.
