Muhammad Ali sculpture in Lewiston, ME. Installation in process by Laran Bronze foundry. Thanks to Charlie Hewitt and Tom Platz for their organization and funding of this sculpture that immortalizes the boxing legend's historic championship fight against Sonny Liston that took place 60 years ago.

This weekend my Muhammad Ali sculpture was unveiled in Lewiston, ME. It was great to celebrate the sculpture and the city of Lewiston with many people, including Maine Governor Janet Mills and Mayor of Lewiston Carl L. Sheline. Thanks to Charlie Hewitt and Tom Platz for making the project possible.

I was at the Elmwood Zoo today with Laran Bronze Inc, looking at where my doe sculpture will be installed in the next few days. While there I was pleased to see that her fawn was very popular with the children.

Using Francis Bacon’s quote, “Knowledge is Power,” as the central theme, Zenos Frudakis sculpted a monument to inspire the process and pleasure of learning. The sculpted large open book features Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein emerging from the pages. These influential figures represent key shifts in the understanding of the world and its sciences. Relief faces and quotes of 31 icons of science, history, mathematics and the arts portray contrasting theories, philosophies and politics, as well as struggles shared across generations. The viewer is led through a process of exploration and is left to weigh countering viewpoints to discover their personal resonance.

Progress continues with the sculpture of Muhammad Ali. This is Ali’s legs in wax at Laran bronze foundry just before it goes into the ceramic shell to begin bronze casting. The torso is still in a mold and the arms are on their way to the mold making room.

I am working on a sculpture of Muhammad Ali commemorating his knockout championship fight with Sonny Liston. This weekend we visited Ali’s Deer Lake training camp. It was inspiring to be in his camp where Jeff Julian, who photographed Ali, showed us around the property.

I created this sculpture of Zelenskyy because I saw him as a hero, standing up to Putin’s invasion. He’s a hero and a great leader. Trump aligning himself with Putin and trying to bully Ukraine while alienating Allies feels like, although we were never perfect, we are now no longer “the good guys”.
