The first new feature of Zettlr 4.0 is a brand-new onboarding experience for new users, which allows changing some basic settings for first-time use. It also introduces new users to some of the core features of the app.

The beta phase for the next major Zettlr release has started! It offers quite the bunch of new features. You can get the beta via GitHub, or via the app,. Over the next weeks, we will slowly introduce the new features the update provides, so stay tuned!

macOS Tahoe PSA: There currently seem to be some performance issues with Electron apps, including Zettlr. These appear to be benign as far as we can see, but some might find them distracting, so be aware of that before updating!

The biggest improvement of the upcoming TableEditor revamp is certainly that it is now impossible to lose any data. With a new approach that interweaves the table with the underlying document, instead of layering it on top of it, each character is immediately persisted to the document.

We have unified the various keybindings under the hood for the next version. While this won't affect your experience much, it allows us to gain an overview over the available commands and improve the keyboard navigation in the editor going forward.

The next release of Zettlr will feature folding keyboard shortcuts. That means that you can use your keyboard to fold and unfold Markdown headers, and TeX and YAML sections without having to click the arrow keys left to the editor.

We're all for equality, but typing four =-characters can be cumbersome — especially if you have to highlight a lot of text. That's why the next version will finally close an old issue and add a keyboard shortcut for ==highlighting text==: Ctrl-Shift-H.

The next version will aid your muscle memory: most keyboard shortcuts will be shared across all editors in the app — custom CSS, snippets, and profiles included. No more shortcuts that only work in the main editor.
