Physics and math! Fond of all animals (especially canids). Pfp by @sketchagon and character design by @ramahuro
I left a corner of one of my shirts in a bowl of water (to get a stain out) and I did not anticipate it absorbing water throughout most of the rest of the shirt. I didn't realize the absorption would be that strong. It's pretty neat though!

No Kings here was pretty big. I was impressed with the level of organization. No litter to speak of, first aid and guides throughout. Most signs were some personal criticism of Trump, followed by anti-ICE. Anti-billionaires and release the Epstein files were other common sign themes.

From a distance I thought this sea lion was a rock until it moved xD. Enjoying the sun like any other beachgoer :3

Thomson's gazelle! What gets me about these guys (which isn't always clear in pictures) is that they're tiny, only about 2ft tall at the shoulder!! They live in herds in eastern Africa and generally eat short grass. I also find their stripe on their side and relatively large horns endearing!

Hoary fox! These small South American foxes eat primarily termites and live alone or in small family groups. They are unfortunately near threatened due to habitat loss. They are generally timid but will aggressively defend their young. I had a post on them before!

Realized it's been exactly one year since I got my ref sheet from Ramahuro! Here's to another year of being a silly anthropomorphic jackal on the internet :3

Not technically called AI, but the large grants that have caused it to gain are related to AI (and specifically generative AI it seems).

Ocean research also gained due to the approval of a large drilling project

Got pizza from the janky pizza place nearby and asked for "thin crust"

I should also show off this incredible scene from @manyy.bsky.social! I realize I hadn't posted it here yet but it is captures exactly how I feel on a cloudy day at the beach!

Shameless plug for jackals as a canine with an interesting skull shape!

Thanks for the chance! You could do my guy or if you want to do an animal I'd love to see a sawfish artwork :D

I also want to include this amazing badge I got from @Rexyjackal! I think I look pretty inviting here :3

Tonight's canid is Dusicyon avus. They were in the same genus as last night's Falkland Islands wolf, but lived in the mainland of South America and most likely went extinct earlier (around 400 years ago). Based on burial sites, there is some evidence that they may have gotten along with humans.

Tonight's canid is the Falkland Islands Wolf or warrah (Dusicyon australis). The Falkland Islands were not inhabited by humans when Europeans arrived in 1764, who were greeted by tail-wagging wolves. By 1876 they were driven to extinction, for their fur and fear that they would kill livestock.

Tonight we have another water-loving webbed-pawed South American canid - the bush dog (Speothos venaticus)! Highly carnivorous, they hunt in large packs (mainly eating large rodents) and are so rare they were once thought to be extinct! Fun fact: they smell like vinegar!
November 16, 2024 at 5:38 AM
Tonight's canid is the short-eared dog (Atelocynus microtis), a unique-looking creature who lives in the Amazon! Their paws are partially webbed to help in their wet environment. Unlike most canids, the female dogs are larger than the males! Sadly, they are at risk from deforestation.
