Proud to be the Liberal Democrat MP for Guildford and our villages. 🏘️ Promoted by Guildford Lib Dems, GU1 1QD 🔶

I have called on the Government to levy harsher penalties against unregulated suicide forums that are claiming lives and avoiding enforcement action. Regulators need to treat the loss of life due to online harms with the urgency it demands.

This is a historic victory for the Liberal Democrats - a customs union is the single biggest step the government could take to grow our economy.

Winning this vote finally gives us the chance to end the economic nightmare of the Conservatives' botched Brexit deal.
🚨BREAKING🚨

MPs have voted to PASS our bill to establish a UK-EU customs union.

The Prime Minister must now listen to his own MPs, drop his self-imposed red lines and finally go for proper growth through an ambitious trade deal with the EU.

Today I’ve written to the Surrey Police Borough Commander about the use of Live Facial Recognition technology in #Guildford town centre.

It's a fundamental breach of the right to privacy that underpins a free society. Transparency and accountability are vital when deploying such tools.

Earlier this week, I had all the festive feels as I joined Tom and Sarah, their regulars, Bookham Scouts and Bookham Choral for the Christmas lights switch-on at The Plough, Effingham. It's wonderful to see this local pub bringing the community together.

This week I voted against the Budget, raised concerns on Hong Kongers’ rights, pressed for protections for historic villages, celebrated the Royal Surrey reaching 10,000 robotic procedures, and joined festive events across #Guildford constituency.

Today is #SmallBusinessSaturday and, to celebrate, I visited two of the many fantastic local businesses we have in Guildford constituency - The Charcuterie Box, West Horsley and Distillers of Surrey, Ripley.

Small businesses are crucial to our local economy, so #ShopLocal whenever you can.

Last week was #UKParliamentWeek!

Great to join events in Westminster & the constituency – from a mock debate at the University of Surrey with Christ’s College students, to welcoming George Abbot to Parliament, chatting with Onslow Guides, and announcing my Christmas card winner at Raleigh School.

Residents in #Guildford and our villages, and across the country, are clearly struggling as a result of the current two-year validity limit on driving theory tests. I urged the Transport Minister to change this to make it easier for people to get a driving license.

Each year ask a local primary school to partner with me on a Christmas card competition.

This year, I had the most beautiful set of entries from children from reception to year 6 from The Raleigh School, West Horsley. This year’s winner was Maeve from Year 5 with this wonderful design.

I am very concerned by the news that councils across the country that are due to have elections next year have received letters asking them whether they would consider cancelling them.

I asked the Secretary of State for the content of those letters and assurances that elections will go ahead.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending an event at Royal Surrey County Hospital to celebrate the milestone of 10,000 robotic procedures completed!

We are fortunate to have such an advanced hospital serving our community and I would like to say huge thank you to the staff for your dedication!

Last night, I voted against Labour’s botched budget. It could have been a budget of opportunity for hard working people and small businesses. Instead, it is a budget of tax rises and broken promises.

Ahead of the Planning and Infrastructure Bill returning to the House of Commons, I've written to Secretary of State about the 'grey belt' and what it means for villages. I want housing, but the Labour Gov is failing to provide the same protection to historic villages as it does for historic towns.

Alongside my Surrey Liberal Democrats colleagues Will Forster and Al Pinkerton, I have written to the Health Secretary about NHS Frimley ICB and Surrey Heartlands ICB pausing all new autism and ADHD assessments.

Surrey Heartlands may restart in April 2026, but capacity will still fall short.

Across Guildford constituency residents face the four different bus companies with four different, non interchangeable tickets - even to the same location. I asked the government how councils can be empowered to deliver joined-up ticketing, making buses simpler, cheaper & more attractive to use.

My family and I had such a fantastic evening at the Yvonne Arnaud on Saturday for opening night of Beauty and the Beast. A huge congratulations to the actors, musicians, stage crew and wider team who have made it happen.

If you’re looking for a great family night out then look no further.

It’s a challenging time for our High Street shops and other local businesses, particularly after the budget. Buying local for our Christmas shopping this year is a great way to help and show our support. I want to hear your recommendations and over the coming weeks I’ll be sharing a few of my own.

As Islamophobia Awareness Month ends, the rise in anti-Muslim hate remains impossible to ignore.

Together, we must call it out and build the inclusive Britain we all need and deserve.

From leading debates in Parliament to visiting local schools and taking part in community events across the #Guildford constituency for UK Parliament Week 2025, it’s been an incredibly busy and rewarding week!

I led the Liberal Democrats’ response to the Government’s Devolution Bill, which falls far short of its promises. Instead of empowering local communities, it centralises authority in Mayors, and will leave councils saddled with debt and set up to fail. I called them out on this.

I know the budget is on everyone’s minds at the moment and I’m keen to hear your thoughts. Here are three from me to get the conversation started. I really think it was a missed opportunity on the part of the Labour government.

You can share your thoughts at [email protected].

This week, I joined with fellow West Surrey MPs, Al Pinkerton and Will Forster, in writing to the Secretary of State for Health to share our concerns and seek clarification regarding Frimley Park and Surrey Heartlands ICBs' decision to pause all new ADHD and ASB assessments. More below.
