Mommy says I'm not allowed to go visit my boyfriend for New Years because she's going to be away with my dad in Italy, and I have to watch the cat.

I'm 43 years old. My parents will do anything to make sure I'm never happy in a relationship again because they aren't happy. This is where we are now.

Me, an early church historian: Happy 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea to all who celebrate. *cracks knuckles*

Also me, seeing the Pope and Ecumenical Patriarch recite the Nicene Creed together, but omitting the Filioque clause in the Orthodox tradition: *falls out of chair*

I swear, being Floridian means that if a holiday ain't turning into a Jerry Springer episode, shit ain't festive enough.

Us textile historians have known this for a while. Not only are counterfeits written about, any of us who have worked in colorants knows that madder and woad do work. There was also a lichen that made purple hues. Not dissing archaeometry, just glad they found evidence.

Thinking of my "graduation" present to myself. Since my dig in Malta is in post-ex, I was considering popping in to a volunteer stint at Vindolanda. Or, I could just hike Hadrian's Wall in its entirety. I'll be by myself, but maybe that's needed.

I see James Watson died. So it's time for a science joke.
"What did Watson and Crick discover?"
"Rosalind Franklin's notes."
Good joke.

Just because I study something, doesn't mean I endorse it.

I'm fascinated by Early Christian History and Theology. That doesn't mean I go to church. It doesn't mean I'm an apologist for Christianity (though I certainly read the Apologists.) I'm a scholar, not a zealot.

Got my serger up and running this weekend and now excuse me while I serge all the things until a thread breaks and opens a gate to hell.

Capitalism dictates that your boyfriend, who works in healthcare, has to go back to work immediately and travel across the country after being hospitalized for a night, with just a shrug from the boss. He should be staying here another 2 nights and resting, but here we are.

To absent friends and loved ones.

I spent my entire day in the ED with the boyfriend, who has some kind of affliction that is making him incapable of keeping fluids down. He has been admitted. I'm home. He flew here to visit me for this weekend and I feel like it's my fault.

Well, if it's viral, I'll find out soon enough.

I first really experienced Dia de los Muertos when I lived in San Diego. The practices weren't alien to me, because All Saints/All Souls is very popular in Mediterranean cultures as well, and growing up Catholic, we always had an ofrenda-adjacent practice. (1)

Happy All Saints to people who know Halloween is 3 days long, and happy half price candy day to the rest of you already putting up Christmas decorations.

I LOVE this app.
With SNAP/EBT cuts looming I highly recommend downloading this app! Basically restaurants and other food businesses will have available bags of random food they don’t wanna waste for ppl to buy for hella cheap! This has saved me sooooo many times when I only have $5 and need some food.

I wish that the organizations I am apart of were not on Facebook, I really need to get off of that cesspit. I post a lot, but I can post here just as often.

Honestly, I think I'm hitting a breaking point of human interaction, and as an extrovert that's wild.

I need people to understand that you are not going to Jamaica for spring break.

You are not going to the Bahamas/Turks and Caicos on your cruise.

You are not going to scream about this on social media.

You are going to donate to relief efforts if you ever want to go these countries again.

Trying to explain to some people that the top schools for me to apply to right now aren't in blue states is like pulling teeth. "WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE TO MASSACHUSETTS AND WORK AT ONE OF OUR PRESTIGIOUS BASTIONS OF LIBERALISM THAT IS KNOW FOR THEIR INCESTUOUS AND NEPOTISTIC HIRING PRACTICES?"

To make up for some lost funding and help me balance a slimmer budget, I brought back my "Still Salty about the Library of Alexandria" shirts that I offered when I ran The Bitchy Historian.
